Since tax shelter has been mentioned several times, I was wondering what people thought of the tax code exemptions for religious groups.

Would it really affect religion if it was not given tax credits by the state? Would fewer people be religious or support their churches?

My sister & her husband were planning to purchase a property from a couple who had started their own church. This couple were insistent that no lawyer be brought in to oversee the sale of their property. There was no need. apparently, as they were ‘Christians’.

Turned out there were liens against their property at least equivalent to the amount they were trying to sell it for.

Not sure what biblical source they were planning to use in order to justify that.🤷

years ago I was invited by a former college classmate turned “financial advistor” to attend a tax shelter seminar. the shelter in question turned out to be a way to get a mail order (now internet I imagine) ordination and form your own religion, with yourself as its principal minister. The burden of the presentation was the tax advantages involved–your home, car and all assets are owned by the religious body and therefore you incur no liability or personal expense for same, and the expenses are counted against any (tax-free) income generated by your “ministry” which can comprise any activity the doctrines of your self-styled religion dictate.
Take it from a CPA who has been in practice for 27 yeas. The trax advantages listed simply are not available UNLESS you are in the ministry full time. Thhere are a myriad of reasons why what you describe above won twork from a tax standpoint-way too much to get into here.

I did have a client one time buy an abandoned church and was goping to move his business into it-he was very disapointed to know operating in a Chruch building did not exempt onefrom taxes

To me it’s the height of arrogance and hypocrisy to imply that anyone not explicitly commisioned by the Church and giving Magisterial teaching knows what on earth they are talking about. I know that makes me intolerant, but I can’t help it.
If that’s what some want to call it (intollerance) then sign me up. I agree with you 100% on this comment.

Which part?
“A friend has informed me that a mutual acquaintance and her husband plan to form their own church.”

lets sing now…from the 80s…rumors…

*How do rumors get started, they’re started by the jealous people and
They get mad seein’ somethin’ they had and sombody else is holdin’
Tell me that temptation is very hard to resist
But these wicked women, ooh, they just persist
Maybe you think it’s cute, but girl, I’m not impressed
I tell you one time only with my business please don’t mess

Look at all these rumors surroundin’ me every day
I just need some time, some time to get away from
From all these rumors, I can’t take it no more
My best friend said there’s one out now about me and the girl next door

Hear the one about Tina, some say she’s much too loose
That came straight from a guy who claims he’s tastin’ her juice
Hear the one about Michael, some say he must be gay
I try to argue, but they said if he was straight he wouldn’t move that way
Hear the one about Susan, some say she’s just a tease
In a camisole she’s six feet tall, she’ll knock you to you knees*

Makes me wonder, if mom and dad start a home church, and the teenage daughter decides that she does not doctrinally agree - can she go to her room and start her OWN home church? Then she could work to evangleize her little brothers and sisters…

😛

starting another man made church is certainly the going thing within the realms of sola scriptura. This is why there are over 30,000 denominations of churches like this, and 3-7 of them are added per week at last count.

Jesus started one church, upon cephas, scripturally and historically. One flock, One shepherd.

If you bring any other shepherd along to start another flock tha was not ordained in the line of the first bishops of the church it cannot be perfectly adherent to what the Original and True Shepherd taught His other shepherds that He ordained. Therefore you have either a group teaching something somewhat close to what the original shepherd taught, or something far from what the original shepherd taught, depending on their own personal view of the scriptures.

Either way, they do not have the continued line of Power which is given by the hands of ordination from the first apostles(bishops) of the church. Especially to confect the Eucharist and bring the flock all of the sacraments where we receive special graces.

Hi

No, I know that people have been working on it, yet there is no result, if at all it is very slow. I only want that such efforts should be geared up. I see still more denominations being formed adding to the already divided Christianity into 32000plus denominations. This is no good by any standards.

One of our friends here perceived that unity is a precondition for descent of Jesus in second coming, so the delay in forming unity tantamount to wilful delay in his descent as per the Christian faith.

I think it is not a good phenomenon.

Thanks
Sorry but your good friend is wrong…Jesus will return after a sequence of terrible events take place on planet earth ; viz. earthquakes ; wars ; signs from the heavens ; sons turning against fathers ; christian brother against christian brother ect.ect. AND then the time will have come for Jesus to return. No man can ever know the exact moment…we are only told [warned] to be ready !!!
Peace to you and all your family.👍

Just remember that any church started by a man after the church Christ started in 33ad is just that, a man made church.

Without the succession of the laying on of .hands by the hands of the bishops, beginning with the apostles, you have no Power to bring forth all of the sacraments and the infallible teaching of the Body of Christ.

This does not mean that you cannot do the will of God to a great extent, but you will never have the Fullness of Truth.

I don’t see how this thread can be construed as gossip, as I did not give out the name of the couple in question, nor the church they intend, or intend to start.

The friend, who is my source, is a very holy woman and is very concerned for this family, as am I. We are trying to talk this couple out of what we feel could increase their culpability. My friend is quite an evangelizer, and has already led one family to the true faith, and is working on several others. She is truly led by the Holy Spirit.

i am having a little trouble putting pieces together, can you help me? below are stuff I hear from catholics, which one is incorrect:

(a) there is no salvation outside the catholic church.
(b) protestants are outside the church.
(c) there are true christians among protestants.

🤷

Why don’t you start a new thread, Agnos?

I can’t help but see how this is not motivated by anything other than selfishness - a desire to be ‘boss’, feeling superior of possessing some truth that no-one else has, or just wanting attention.
I am sorry for saying that as I don’t intend to be disrespectful or hurtful. I really don’t, but, What truth would they have found, or now have, that other Christians would not have known since Christs life? Faith cannot be improved, it was given whole and holy and perfect in Jesus and by Jesus so that all can worship and adore the Father. I’m no expert but I think starting churches (your own religion) is dangerous business. You have so much more to answer for on the last day and you have souls to answer for and to be responsible for … :ouch: it makes my head hurt.

A friend has informed me that a mutual acquaintance and her husband plan to form their own church. This is in response to a change in the leadership of their non-denominational church wherein the pastor is hiring a man who has been divorced and remarried as co-pastor.
They base this decision on Jesus’ admonishment against divorce in the Gospel, as well as something in the New Testament about a bishop only being married once.

If the church is not following the Bible, I do not see what choice they have.

but taking responsibility for souls and the instruction of souls. That’s my concern - authority brings responsibility, lots of responsibility
