Well, maybe they disagreed with a Vatican position on homosexuals. That’s a long way from ‘Catholicphobia’, or whatever.

Take off that victim’s cloak.
It is called sarcasm. I do not believe there is any such thing as “homophobia,” and was using the word “Catholicphobia” to make that point. I guess you missed that.

Use smaller, simpler words next time. Liberals are easily confused. 😉

I missed it too. Perhaps because it never occurred to me that anyone would deny that there could be a fear of homosexuals or homosexuality. Using the made-up term Catholicphobia fails your message doubly in my case, since it also strikes me as obvious that some have a fear of Catholics and Catholicism.

Can you clarify? Am I misunderstanding your use of these words?

See Beau’s response, as his misunderstanding clarifies irishpatrick’s sarcasm…

Maybe, Catholics just disagree with the positions that pro-gay groups take. Smearing them with the term homophobe is about as intellectual as playing the race card at every chance one gets.

irishpatrick states he doesn’t believe there is such a thing as homophobia. Is he being sarcastic in that remark as well?

I can’t speak for him on that. However, I would say that its existence does not extend to everyone who disagrees that homosexuality should be normalized. I was commenting on the original remark, which I thought was what you “missed,” since you said “too” (as in, along with Beau). Perhaps, you meant that you missed the point of the more recent post? Or, did you miss the point of both? You weren’t clear.

I took both at face value. I usually don’t spend too much time on the posts that veer more toward the chatty and sarcastic, unless there are issues of fact or logic. While the first post had an obvious logical flaw equating “Catholicphobia” with “Christophobia,” it seemed a little out there (now I know why) and also seemed off-topic enough that I didn’t bother contesting it. The second post seemed like a straightfoward explanation to clear up the confusion of the first post, except that it seemed at odds with common sense. That’s what prompted my reply.

"The difficulty with sarcasm is that participants often do not know how seriously to take what you are saying. What seems “obvious” to you to be a mild tweak can send other participants into high offense, causing them to report the post to the moderation staff for action.

Suggestions:
Code:
* Use emoticons when possible to convey your intent. A smiley-face or a wink can demonstrate that you are not intending malice.

* End the post on a positive note, devoid of sarcasm. A pleasant ending can act like sugar helping the medicine go down.

* Think of sarcasm like salt. Just as you wouldn't dump a shakerful on your food, don't dump a load of sarcasm into a post. Use it sparingly."

Simple, I was being sacarcastic to drive home a point…nothing new there. 🙂

Catholicphobia and Christophobia are almost the same…yet the point with those phrases is that they are every bit (if not more so) accurate to use than the term “homophobia.”

I guess you missed his point. He was using sarcasm to demonstrate the victimhood of those who call Catholics homophobes because of our stance on homosexuality. 🤷
Exactly. And apply that to anyone who simply disagrees with a homosexual lifestyle, they are all called homophobes–utter nonsense.

I don’t think that throwing names, insults and accusations around, whether directed towards the Vatican or towards homosexuals, is a helpful or intelligent way for adults to behave.
WELL their not Adults, that’s all they are is a bunch spoiled brat homosexuals who are used to geting anything they want from a bunch of yellow -bellied coward americans, who wont stand their ground against homosexuals.

So, whatever happened to “freedom of religion” and “separation of Church and state”??? Guess it doesn’t exist in California!:mad:

I’ve already made it clear to irishpatrick that he should use smaller words to avoid confusing or bewildering you in the future. The use of smilies might help you figure it out too, so it is good that you brought it up. 😉 👍

I didn’t bring it up – those are forum rules.

Thanks for the condescension, though.
