Patricia Gibson, the chancellor of the Peoria diocese as well as the attorney-in-house, has worked closely with the entire process from the beginning. After today’s ruling she reported on the elation of Joan Sheen Cunningham, the archbishop’s 88-year-old niece, oldest living relative and closest next-of-kin.
“Joan Cunningham is very excited and very grateful in regards of the ruling in her favor to transfer Bishop Sheen’s body,” Gibson said.
Then she added more news. “The bishop [Bishop Daniel Jenky] has asked me to move forward and begin the process to transfer Bishop Sheen. I hope that is accomplished before Christmas. It can all happen rather quickly.”
What a strange case…but this is great news! I’m just glad that Bishop Sheen’s cause for the sainthood will finally be able to move forward.

I do not understand why Bishop Sheen’s body has to be in Peoria
for his Beatification to proceed.
I am glad the process will now continue…just not sure why

I guess Peoria gets him because he was born in that diocese. Both communities fought so hard for his remains, I hope he showers blessings on both of them.

It’s unfortunate that Archbishop Sheen’s wish to be interred in St. Patrick’s Cathedral will no longer be honored.

When Bishop Sheen lived next to St. Patrick’s Cathedral my uncle, Jerry gave him his B-12 injections & became very friendly with him. My uncle also painted the ceiling in Bishop Sheen’s chapel. Sheen got my uncle to get back to the Church after being lapse for 20 yrs.
At my uncle’s funeral mass in 1975, the Bishop called my uncle his Michelangelo for painting his ceiling. I have a book “This is the Mass” signed by Bishop Sheen to me.
Our family has many fond memories of Bishop Sheen! 👍

My brother was his Altar Boy for his Masses at both St. Patricks’ & St. Agnes Churches. We were honored to have him over for dinner many nights. Your uncle was an artist who rendered a beautiful work.

Peoria may be Sheen’s native diocese, but I think he’s from a smaller town nearby.

Canonization does not push anybody into heaven. And, if someone is already with the Lord, I don’t know how those honors could possibly add to their eternal bliss.

If the saints in heaven CAN pray for us, then why don’t they? Why do we have to seek their intercession? Scripture says God knows what we want and need before we pray for it.

As a boy watching him on TV, he scared me. He looked scary. Today, I still don’t understand a fair amount of what he says. His dramatic flourishes often confused me about what he was saying.

I remember one of his talks when he was praying for money for his hotel bill, because he didn’t have the money. He prayed and got it. He said to pray for lots of money, don’t “go” small in prayer.

Is he the most famous graduate of the seminary in Louvain?

Yes, archbishop Sheen grew up in El Paso, Illinois, as I now recall.

Did you read the article - why do you think there was specific request by the Bishop to be interred at St Patrick’s … from the Article
After speculating on Bishop Sheen’s wishes, the judge concluded, “This is what is not speculation: there is no support for the conclusion that Archbishop Sheen expressed a specific desire to be buried in St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
You must have information that was not presented before the Court 🤷
