Actually Mumford and Sons do the best version of The Boxer.
Thanks, I like it.
Love that version! His voice is so poignant.

Heh, nope, afraid I wasn’t joking since I’m an American and as you said, they didn’t achieve that AC/DC-level stardom outside of Australia.

They’re playing in the venue where I work in October.

They do some Leonard Cohen covers that are amazing. This is at their first CD release.

Here they do Tom Wait’s “The Briar and the Rose”

Ok, one of my favorite one-hit-wonders is Brandi by Looking Glass. This cover by the Red Hot Chili Peppers is much better than the original (note: I am not a RHCP fan)

Downtown Train was written and done by Tom Waits, most people know it as a Rod Stewart song. But a fews back Bob Seger recorded it and I think it is the best version:

Yeah - many moons ago. Got a Grammy and was #6 on Billboard Hot 100. The movie gave it the coverage.

Harry was a bit of an eclectic singer; love his work. And just my opinion, I think every child should see The Point.

The banjo adds a lot, I think that’s why I like it the best. An under utilized instrument in popular music.

Yeah, that’s about the most powerful music video I can ever imagine seeing.

I saw Midnight Cowboy and I assumed the song was written for it. Loved it. I’m not familiar with “The Point”.

Just googled it and was surprised to see that Nilson also wrote “Me and my Arrow” which I’ve got on an album by the Royal Guardsmen. Guess I’d never really looked closely at any but the Snoopy songs on that one.

Speaking of Bob Seger reminds me of another one. Seger’s version of “We’ve Got Tonight” is far better than the one by Kenny Rogers and Sheena Easton.

That song is written by Seger. Definitely better performed by him, it doesn’t come close to qualifying for this thread
