Hi everyone! I came across several articles online that talk about people covering themsrkves, their loved ones, and everything with the Blood of Jesus. Or they could use the word “plead.” It stated that it would protect you and whatever you would plead or cover with the Blood of Jesus. But at the same time people claim that it is not biblical and that it will open the doors to evil . I’d like to know you guys think.

Also there is "Lord Jesus, have mercy on me, a sinner prayer, is that okay to pray or not. Are there any negative effects from praying or saying these two prayers–the Jesus prayer and the or the other one. I’d like to know your (name removed by moderator)ut. Thank you!

Hi SunsetMemories,

Here is a link to biblehub.com, which references 1John 1:7, “…where the blood of Jesus purifies us of sin.”

I don’t know where you saw that praying the first prayer is not biblical, and will open the door to evil? I have personally never heard of that?

There is nothing wrong the second prayer, either, in my opinion.

What I am thinking is that the “precious blood” prayer may be used as a prayer asking for spiritual help and protection, and that it is also perhaps used for spiritual deliverance when one is dealing with evil. I have personally prayed it, myself.

Prayer is a personal relationship that we all have with God, too, besides the prayers that the Church uses, and the prayers that we learn as Catholics, such as The Lord’s Prayer, for example.

I feel that we can pray how we desire, as long as our prayer/s brings us in a closer relationship to God and His kingdom. That is how I perceive it. 🙂

If at any time you feel that you are confused or troubled about how you are feeling about anything of a spiritual nature, I would recommend that you talk to your parish priest/pastor for help/guidance.

God bless you! 🙂

Pleading the blood of Christ seems similar to what is begged in the Chaplet of Divine Mercy:
“Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of your dearly beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins, and those of the whole world.”
But why plead the Blood of Christ when you can (are commanded to!) drink it? I do not know, but this concept ‘may’ have its origin in those communities who have rejected the Sacraments.

As to the fabricated “Sinner’s prayer” it, of course, is nowhere in the bible. It seems to be a substitute for the Sacrament of Penance, particularly the Act of Contrition. Another substitute is the non-biblical “Altar call.” Converts to Catholicism have mentioned this substitution.

The human soul desires to be reconciled with God, but lacking Sacraments, the post-reform ecclesial communities have nothing to offer - thus, these traditions have been instituted to fill the void. There is no way - zero - for a Christian to know if grace flows through them, as it does with the Sacraments.

The “Sinner Prayer” the OP referred to is not the “Sinner’s Prayer” that people recite during an altar call to say they have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior in non-Catholic communities.
The words “Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me, a sinner” is an ancient prayer very much used in the Eastern Churches as a prayer of meditation, or a prayer that can be said frequently throughout the day to do as St. Paul says–pray constantly. It is becoming more popular in the Western Church also. I frequently say it myself. It is called the “Jesus Prayer”.
It is not to be confused with the “Sinner’s Prayer”, whose words are entirely different.

Here is an article about it:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus_Prayer

It is perfectly fine for a Catholic to pray this way. God bless.

The concept of repenting of your sins and turning to Christ is in the Bible. However, repentance means to change your mindset. The Sinner’s Prayer totally diminishes that and twists the words of the Publican. Pray the Jesus Prayer.

Luke 18:13 But the tax collector stood off at a distance and would not even raise his eyes to heaven but beat his breast and prayed,** ‘O God, be merciful to me a sinner.’**
