As I’m sure most people here are frustrated at liturgical abuses (gay Masses, Winnie-the-Pooh Masses, ad infinitum), why doesn’t the Vatican take severe disciplinary action?
My idea:
Send an official from CDF (Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith) to do an inspection on churches to make sure everything is done according to the rubrics, make sure all is orthodox, and all that good stuff. And if the priest doesn’t clean up his act, he gets penalized (I have no idea what this would be, but…).
Call it a crackdown, an inquisition, whatever. But obviously, something needs to be done. Desperate times call for desperate measures, right? Surely the Holy See cares about proper adoration due to Our Lord?
And if this is done, what would be the possible repurcussions? I imagine that some priests are so steeped in their pride that they would defect to another denomination, but on how large of a scale are we talking about here? How much attendance would be lost? What about money? Would Our Lord approve or disapprove of it? Things like that. Is a crackdown worth it or not worth it?
