Crash landed on an Island...

In the beginning was the Word, and the word was with God, and the word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came to be through him, and without him nothing came to be.
(the rest of John 1).
(A chapter a day through the Gospel of John, then a chapter a day through the book of Acts).
This is the story of how God came to earth and how He wants us to worship Him. There is only one sacrifice, and it is done. We need no more human scarifices. God wanted only one, and that was Himself, and it is finished.
Instead, we become part of that sacrifice through the Mass. That pleases God. Killing each other displeases God. The wars that were necessary to keep God’s people alive and the words of the prophets intact for so many years are no longer necessary. We must not kill people. People must care for one another instead.
The volcanoes erupt regardless of what you do. What has been the result of sacrificing to the volcanoes? Islanders who do no sacrifices have the same volcanic activity as islanders who sacrifice.
But our prayers to God have produced millions of visible and obvious results. The sun dances. Lost body parts reappear. Tumors disappear. Children who have not had a heartbeat suddenly sit up and ask for food. Roses bloom in the frost. Men walk across the surface of stormy inland seas. An inland sea is like a big, big lagoon, and it can storm almost as wildly as the open sea. Fish appear in nets. Lost belongings appear in places everyone looked in and did not find them when no one has been there to replace them. Our God is a God of love and hope and peace and joy and life, and He wants to be worshipped because He is the real God.
I myself have seen many of the workings of our God. Many miracles have saved my life. If you will give up Pele and worship our God instead you will find new peace and life and your people will be rejoicing.
(then I start praying).

Thanks for playing along. If you are Protestant, you can be a Protestant missionary.
Just wanted to make sure you weren’t some kind of anti-Protestant.
The natives speak English, but they cannot read
Funny how that happens…
therefore… the tract is not good on the island.
No, it is still good since I would be reading them the tract.
Please try to share your Catholic Christian hope as a virtual reality missionary with your own words.
Why my own words? What do the inhabitants of this island care if they are my words, Karl Keatings or St. Paul’s? Furthermore how do the inhabitants know that I didn’t write the tract that I would be reading and therefore, as far as they are concerned, it is my words?

These inhabitants are starting to get very irritating 😃

God bless

Whatever you plan on teaching them, you better do it quick before they all die of the diseases you brought with you.

And what would you say if one the natives pointed out that if your god was so all powerful then why did you crash in the first place?

Because they are Elect Natives! God will bring the great news about His Son to all His chosen ones through divine providence! Those elect natives were chosen before the foundations of the world to believe in Christ… as you as someone tells them more about Jesus Christ. I believe the Natives are still dead in their sins and treaspasses, worshipping their Pagan Gods. Help us in our misplaced worship!

"Do you want us to sacrifice those who came from the sky, oh pagan moon god?’ - Chief of the Island

Hello Chief

You are a mighty and very brave man, a chief of this people. You have shouldered a great responsibility and have seen death and caused death so that your people may live. The government of your people lies with you. Did you know that this book I speak of, Holy Scipture, speaks of kingship? There was once a man called king David who refused to kill another king because kingship was sanctioned by my God. Although he did put a little rip into his tunic just so the other king would, when awakened, know that David could have, but didn’t, kill him.

It is from this mighty bloodline that this Son of God was born. How can God make Himself into his own Son? And, wait, later, he left behind His Holy Spirit, known as the Comfortor, so that He may live within each one of us. All this from One God, who we call Father.

How is this possible? When you are able to count the grains of sand on your beachfront, then you may begin to be able to understand the depth of possiblitiy of God. For now, I am humble enough to admit that it is a mystery beyond my understanding. yet this admitence of ignorance gives me my most valuable and powerful tool- faith. For it is by this faith alone that i will never really die. I will pass from this life into a life of eternity and live forever with the only One True God.

Do you want this for your people? God is a just and a merciful God. he knows that you knew Him not and were willing to give blood sacrifice in order to apease that whom you came to know as Goddess. He is now offering you His Peace that comes with no more bloodshed. And the Comfortor Who shall always be with you. help your people. And you will be known for generations to come as the greatest of all chiefs. The one chief who found the way to stop the blood and just watch the mountains when they gave birth to new islands.

We worship Pele the mighty Volcano Goddess on this island. I am Chief! Why is your God the only true God? What is your God like? Is He an angry God? Does He like human sacrifices too? Pele is pleases with human sacrifice; it appeases her anger of fire and lava. Tell me more about this Adam and Eve and how they ruined it all.
They ate an apple. :o

If you crash landed on an island with local natives isolated from the known world, and were allowed to have two books from the Bible with you, which two books from the Bible would you want to have with you?:blushing::juggle:

I would want the Gospel of John and the book of Romans with me.
I’d rather have a good scientific book with useful information.

Maybe we could alter this thread to be crash landed in the wasteland of the outback after a nuclear holocaust?!!

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

The Bible is more useful then any scientific book.
I disagree. While you’d be on the island trying to convince a primitive people of the merits of your religion (that is assuming you’re clever enough to talk them out of sacrificing you to their volcano god, which might prove particularly difficult given you don’t speak their language and you’re only one unarmed guy) I’ll arrive, devise a clever trick using a bit of the science in my book, continue to show myself useful by teaching them how to treat injuries, build sound structures, safely prepare and store food, decontaminate water, and construct bathroom facilities that mitigate diseases like cholera.

Eventually I’ll become their leader (naturally), take the hottest woman as my wife, and (if I could get away with it) a few servants. You’ll be long roasted, a sacrifice to their volcano god, while I would have convinced them of the human pattern of forming religion to help man explain phenomena we otherwise lack answers for, and instead of worshiping the volcano to “avoid its wrath” I would tell them safety is as simple as moving to a different part of the Island. I could probably really abuse my intelligence and convince them I’m a god … but if I’m gonna be trapped on a far away island for the rest of my life, it would at least be nice not to be nagged by religion (even one of my own creation).

Or I could teach them the volcano god only likes to eat religious missionaries (just in case any show up) 😃

Check the Scriptures brother🙂
Very good Chief, I see you have been reading our Holy Book about Adam & Eve. 😃

It seems like there is hope for you! 😛

Now, you must excuse me, I am now off to help the rest of the heathen natives on your island. 😃

OK, Mark Twain. The first suggestion in this thread of taking a scientific book was a quote by a conservative, zealous Catholic that’s about a hundred years old. We know what’s practical. Maybe you don’t understand this thread.

LOL… but Peter and Paul write to the Elect of God. Paul only endures hardship for the elect of God.

Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. - 2 Tim 2

Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who are elect exiles of the dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, native island, and Bithynia, according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you. - 1 Peter

I would have John and Psalms for my devotions.

For evangelizing - - I’d do what Jesus said… let my light so shine before men that they see my good works and glorify my Father in heaven.

But good works are incomplete without the proclamation of the gospel to the Natives. In addition to your good works done in Christ, God crash landed you on an island for a purpose to share His good news. What would you share with the Natives about what God has done for us?
