i don’t think i’d worry too much about the back support. some very healthy and limber cultures sleep in hammocks with no physical detriment.
**the only concern i would have is that in OUR culture we are used to having mattresses and lots of back support. Maybe cultures who use hammocks from day one grow/adjust differently? Kind of like how developed nations have more foot problems because we wear structured shoes while feet are still growing while less developed nations have a lot of barefootedness which allows them to develop more naturally and stronger… **🤷

yeah, Malia. i guess you’re right that some development is enchanced by custom.

now, with ten kids, you’d think my feet should never bother me. i’ve been barefoot and pregnant most of my adult life…

This is what I was thinking too. Aren’t there some cultures that utilize hammocks instead of traditional beds? But then again, the kind of hammocks and how they hang them might be different than the kind you buy in the store over here, you know?

You know my daugher’s hammock is very easy to put up and take down and it was only $40 on sale at Company Kids. It came with a carrying tote like those fold up chairs everyone has. It’s supposed to be portable but it is way to heavy.

Anyway, you all could have the best of both worlds if you keep your eye out for a sale (probably now is best - winter months - summer clearance) and give it as a gift.
