Why then did Christ tell questioners to render unto Caesar that which was Caesar’s? Very thought provoking, isn’t it. Was it just a very clever way out of a difficult question, the answer to which would satisfy the civil authority and the religious as well who knew everything belonged to God? Maybe the use of that text to justify payment of taxes is misplaced.
