Creation: Why Did God Take Billions Of Years?

Why did God become a human being to save us? Why did God endure bloody agony to save us? Part of agony is the passing of time. God subjected himself even to time.
Why did God, who is outside time aeternally, enter into time? God who needs nothing, including time, subjects himself to time in Jesus’ human nature.
Talk about mind-bending time warps!

In that context the billions of years thing should be acceptable.

I think God intended to create a system where the greatest number of possibilities would occur naturally. He wanted a nature that expresses itself according to it’s nature as opposed to a puppet on a string paradigm. A painting that paints itself. A blind watch maker.

I’m not certain that it took billions of years. When Jesus changed the water into wine at the wedding at Cana, the wine tasted wonderful and appeared as though it had gone through a lengthy fermenting process even though it was only in fact minutes old. Just because things carbon date as being x amount of years old, doesn’t mean that they actually are. Had they had scientific tests back then the wine would have dated further back then that day, because it was created mature, just as our earth might have been created mature. Another example would be Adam. When he was a day old, “science” would have told us he was in his twenties or thirties. Things are not always as they appear.

I don’t know how long it took… so I don’t know what to say.

I’ll just add that we are in a linear time, whereas God is outside of time. It’s greater than I can understand, so I try not to think about “time” when it comes to God.

Why not billions of years? It’s so grand and majestic that way. 🙂

Guyman - Your question shows you do not fully understand the ‘relationship’ AND ‘difference’ between - our physical and temporal based ‘time’, and infinity. Our physical bodies briefly exist in a lineal ‘time’ - infinity is a constant state of IS, contains far more dimensions than the mere 11ish that physical time has. Time and infinity are as ‘chalk and cheese’. I suggest you study pure/theoretical mathematics to get a sense of the difference between infinity and ‘physical world’ numbers.

I don’t think the concept of time means a great deal to God. Time is as science tells us simply one of the dimensions and is relative to the point of view of the observer.

He decided that He wanted the availability of the printing press.

Respectfully opinion only pondering on 🤔 the question why did God take billions of years, maybe our Heavenly Father did not need billions of years, but we as rebellious stiff neck people ( written within his own Spoken Word) Human Beings, are the ones needing billions of years?

James teaches us one can have faith, but ones faith, can be going the wrong direction?

Have faith in what or whom, if one does not >> know?
Or how to show ones faith in?

Faith gets us to his door, but knowing Him, doing what pleases Him > is what gets us in?
Because God desires belief based upon faith, not knowledge.
For if Jesus just went around not being a doer of good works the crucifixtion would have no value, we would not be saved, if just based on saying we have faith?
Our Heavenly Father ask, How much do you love me?
For have I not shown you, how much I loved you, I was a doer?
I labored for you, laid down my life for you, a doer?
I suffered for you.doer?
I preached the Spoken Word I labored daily for you, a doer, was I not?
Jesus did not preach for nothing, but wanting all to >>Know>>>The Sermon on the Mount, right? To >>know>>what pleases our Heavenly Father?

When I ( God) was sick, did you care for me ( God)?

James Epistle 1: 27 Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father is this: to care for orphans and widows their distress and to keep one self unstained by the world,

James 1:18 But someone will say, " You have faith and I have works. Show me your faith apart from your works and I by my works will show you my faith.

James 1:21 Was not our ancestor Abraham justified by works when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see that faith was active along with his works and faith was brought to completion by works. Thus the scripture was fulfilled that says, Abraham believed God and it was reckoned to him as righteousness.

James 1 : 19 You believe that God is one; you do well Even the demons believe and shudder. Do you want to be shown you senseless person that faith apart from works is barren?

Jesus, you will know them by their fruits? doers?

We will reap what we sow? Doers?
Plant your seed in fertile ground? one has to be a doer?

Jesus prayer to His Father >I accomplished all the works thou gave me, >>within his last supper prayer? Jesus was a doer?

Change your harden hearts of stone? One has to be a doer to accomplish such? make changes?

James teaching>>Be doers?

Was our Heavenly Father not a doer of works?
He could of simply stayed in heaven, choose to do nothing and not be a doer?
Nor send no one, to accomplish his will?
One cannot call out if one is not a doer?

Not just faith >> Zehariah, Elizabeth>What made them righteous before the Lord? Both were doers.

Luke 1 :5-7 In the days of King Herod of Judea there was a priest Zechariah who belong to the priestly order of Abijah. His wife was a descended of Aaron and her names was Elizabeth. Both of them were righteous before God , living blamelessly according to all the commandments and regulations of the Lord.
Both were doers?

Peace 🙂

Very interesting. I’m sure to many here that sounds like “Deism” - a God who created and then sort of left things to go on without him. I’m not saying you mean that,

The God of Deism comes across to me as a being among other beings. Although one can suppose that he created all the other beings, once everything has been created they exists of their own accord from then-on apart from God…

The God I’m thinking of is the being or act of reality in which creation takes place and has it’s existence. God is the ontological framework in which creation has it’s limited expression. Creation has no being without God’s eternal act, whereas the God of deism could cease to be and his creation would still exist because his creation is ontologically independent of God…

I imagine a God that is constantly involved in the actuality of his creation, but not a God that does not allow secondary causes. I believe in natural events, that God created a natural world that freely acts according to it’s nature…But nature cannot exist without God’s eternal presence and will.

The blind watchmaker is not tenable. Nature has no nature without God. Nothing can exist outside the cause of causes - God.

Is it any less creation if humans came about a few billion years later? Does a being who exists outside of time distinguish between a second and ten billion years?

Psalm 90: 4
For a thousand years, in thy sight, are but yesterday.

I know it takes 100,000 years - to cross our universe - at the speed of light.

It was revealed to a Saint - someone at church told me -
that there’s no time involved with God - no past or future. - it’s all now -
I do recommend the book “ Time “ by Alexander Waugh - very fascinating -
It took a long time ( no pun attended ) to capture time as we know it…
From sun dials, to naming months, to leap year…etc
