A few nights ago I heard Bill Donohue assert on EWTN to Raymond Arroyo that the instances of sexual abuse by priests was confined to the 80’s and 90’s. Now it appears that the Diocese of Crookston (MN) is paying $750,000.00 to a young woman who was raped by a priest in 2004. When will this end?

Don’t know… Very distressing** if** true. This has got to be on the forefront of the parishioner’s mind when asked to give to the offering plate or when a local Bishop makes an appeal for funds. I mean - what is the point of giving if it just goes to waste??

This is difficult for everyone.
-Difficult for the woman who was raped.
-Difficult for the people around the priest who didn’t know anything was wrong.
-Gives the Church a bad reputation.
-Diocese has to give this woman a ton of money because of that priest’s actions, so their budget is going to be even more crunched in an already-bad economic time.

I wish this was dealt with sooner. She was raped in 2004, seven years ago. What’s going on?

Following up, the NY Times says the payment was covered by insurance.

Yes but when claims are paid out it usually raises the premiums.
