Children recognize gender differences as early as two years of age, and perhaps even before. Cross-dressing, however, does not equate to homosexuality necessarily: the majority of cross-dressers are in fact heterosexuals who receive some kind of erotic stimulation from wearing the clothes of the opposite sex. Further, one should not confuse cross-dressing with transgender: cross-dressers, as a rule, do not desire to change their gender. It is not an issue of gender identity but rather a fetish. Having said that, it is still regarded as a psychological disorder since it can often get out of hand. I don’t see why children should be encouraged to cross-dress if they have no desire to do so in the first place. We should teach tolerance, respect, and love of all people, but this is not the way to do it.
