An article by LifeSiteNews caused a stir earlier this week by reporting that Catholic Relief Services contributed 5.3 million dollars to a charity (CARE) that funds contraceptive and abortion services. I was quite concerned about this being that we give a montly contribution to CRS. I emailed them through their website expressing my concern and told them that I would suspend my monthly contributions until they stopped sending money to CARE. I received a prompt reply stating much of what was written in the link above. After considering that CRS, being mindful and faithful to the teachings of the church, came to their decision after careful study and consultation with Dr. John Haas of the National Catholic Bioethics Center (NCBC), I have decided to continue with our monthly contribution. I hope others who have been disturbed by the LifeSiteNews article will get all of the facts and think this through clearly before withholding further donations from a wonderful Catholic charity.
