Not so fast with the slam. Is it not enough that CRS has humbly admitted the error and stated that they will correct it, even giving credit to LifeSiteNews? I believe that this shows that they are serious about keeping true to their mission statement.Would this have happened with out LifeSiteNews and other blogs that reported this? Do to think so. I commend CRS, better late than never, but as a Catholic organisation they should of not had such errors in the first placeNot so fast with the slam. Reporter Meredith Cohn (Baltimore Sun) quotes Dr. John Haas of the National Catholic Bioethics Center:
" Giving money — federal or private — to CARE for “good legitimate purposes” would not violate Catholic doctrine even if the group uses a small amount of its own money for contraception, said Dr. John Haas of the National Catholic Bioethics Center, which advises Catholic Relief on grant recipients."

CRS also instructed its employees to inform participants in a CRS drug/HIV program where they can obtain condoms. Oh, and that same document also provided a workshop on how to use a condom. CRS may promote Natural Family Planning, but the evidence shows that it most CERTAINLY ALSO promotes condom use … even if they claim otherwise.CRS promotes Natural Family Planning.

The only solution here is for CRS to COMPLETELY break away from these groups and NEVER work with them, and CERTAINLY never give them money! But for that to happen, CRS would have to fire all it’s pro-abortion/pro-contraception staff and burn all its documents that promote condoms.
Honestly, I really don’t think that this is too much to ask.

It is my opinion that CRS is doing everything to keep in line with Church teaching and when some valid criticism has been called to their attention that deserves correction, such as the topic of this thread, they have responded accordingly.No … CRS just tells its clients how effective condoms are and where they can get them.

I have not been impressed with blasts from LifeSiteNews, blog posts and forum members. However, I did come across this quote (below) from a CRS member working in Africa that does cause some concern. I am still waiting to get a reply to my questions from the Pontifical Institute “Cor Unum” that I sent over two weeks ago.
Western Catholics agencies should be all the more eager to stand in solidarity with the Church in other parts of the world precisely against just such moral regression – a considerable obstacle to human development everywhere, perhaps especially in the “developed,” but bleaker, swaths of the modern West.
Yet on my own many trips to Africa with Catholic Relief Services, for example, it was not uncommon to hear locals refer to them as the “non-Catholic Catholic agency.” (Imagine what they say about CAFOD – the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development).
