If this had been an Islamic symbol of faith, there’s be no discussion, Museion would have never chanced the wholesale degredation of Islam, regardless of what it was supposed to represent.

I’m not just saying this but, its not that good, what’s so artistic about it, it looks like a cheesy highschool project.

I mean no offense to the artist (may he rest in peace), but seriously, its like a lot of art these days…well, kind of cheesy.

As I am currently enduring the torture of listening to my two youngest children watching a Pokeman DP Battle Dimension marathon, I am not amused…

In fact, it may be time to go target shooting with my daughter:

Okay…it’s actually melensdad’s photo…but the sentiment is mine.

There were so many crucifixions, so this does not bother me.
There was only one crucifixion that changed things forever.
If this artist had mocked Christ on the Cross, that would be another thing alltogether!

Its not very good art. So it is offensive on that level. I pray be praying for the artist.

Thankfully it wasn’t a frog looking like Mohammad or we would have riots and mayhem all around the world.

MOMA’s across the globe constantly mock and degrade our faith–be it the Blessed Mother or Christ (remember the crucifix that was upside down in the urine?) With each assault, we rationalize our way out of it, as no big deal. Then we wonder why the secular world feels so comfortable in cramming their often degenerate practices down our throats.

The curators coming up with the tortured artist defense is a tad too convenient for me.

May Jesus and Mary spare the souls of those who desecrate the meaning of the Faith… May those souls receive a wake up call from either Jesus or Mary or one of the saints who are profoundly Christian and scare the desecration out of them!

I am sure some Christians were offended by the frog; likewise, I am offended when Pikachu is used in target practice.

I am curious; did you endure the torture of watching Yu-Gi-Oh! GX dubbed episodes? I am betting you didn’t see any Japanese Yu-Gi-Oh! episodes which aren’t so bad. I only watched like about 3 on YouTube because I couldn’t stand them. Also, I wonder why would ANYONE still watch Pokémon after Misty disappeared. However, I still like Pokémon because I have about six gigabytes of high-resolution episodes on my hard drive.

It does get people into the museums (or at least noticing the museum exists). But such appropriations of religious imagery often have a sophomoric quality. I think they dumb down art.

Perhaps a nice metal sculpture with a bunch of homosexual men raping children and babies. I’m sure that would garner some attention. Ditto for a piece depicting Mohamed kneeling before a crucifix…how many gays and Islamics would be telling people to relax and enjoy the attendance?

What you see as art and what I see as as desecration are in the eye of the beholder…since Benedict XVI sees it the same way as I, I’m good with where I am.

Maggie, are you responding to anyone in particular? I haven’t seen any posts in this thread which have defended the piece.

I am likewise offended by the frog crucifixion and Pikachu used for target practice.

Why would an ‘artist’ waste his time making rubbish like this. Just for a reaction I suspect. But there are artists who lived centuries ago whose work is still held precious today and will still be in centuries to come, this thing will be forgotten in a couple of years.
I mean no offense to the artist
Why not?
It’s rubbish art, he’s a rubbish ‘artist’ and it doesn’t even deserve the title of “art”. It’s just a plastic model stuck to a cross.

WHAT!!

I’m on it! 😉

In a strange way, art like this DOES do what art is supposed to: reflect the status of human culture and society.

Maybe it’s not the artist’s fault that society today is childish, resentful, shortsighted and foolish? 😉

Maybe the hatred of religious Christians is so visceral, and our Christian response so milk toast, that denigration of what we hold most sacred, is easy prey for secularists.

“P— Christ”, “S&M Last Supper”, and the sculpture of Mary smeared with elephant dung (done by the same ‘artist’ who submerged a crucifix in urine) are messages to be sure.

Whimsical little throwaways, nope, not buying that.

When faced with a cartoon depicting one of their leaders in an unflattering light, our Islamic brothers have simply banded together and issued death threats. This tactic appears to be quite successful, albeit barbaric and not acceptable in polite society.

Can you imagine the furor that would be unleashed if cays were portrayed in Christian art as rapers of babies and children?

How many MOMA’s would be open to the display of either?

There is a true hatred and revulsion of Christianity and Christians in the secular world. In that we agree, “…DOES do what art is supposed to: reflect the status of human culture and society.”

Not protest it and fail to take action? Not in my play book.

If that were the case, then why don’t we see similar styles of “art” affecting Islam or Judaism?

The world hates Christ, so it will hate Christians as well. Just gotta deal with it, trust and hope in God, make reparation for evil, pray for sinners, and love them. Hate the sin, yes, but the sinner we must love and forgive them their offenses. That’s the crooked and narrow way of Life.
