The GOP primary has completely devolved to something unworthy of an election for high school homecoming queen. When is the last time Trump or Cruz talked about policy? How does Trump’s vision for economic recovery differ from Cruz’s vision? Does Cruz still support a flat tax - what is Trump’s tax policy? What about infrastructure, labor policy, anything substantive? Does anyone know? Does the GOP electorate even care? But we know what they think about each others wives, hand sizes, hair styles… Amazing that we have been reduced to this level.

Agreed, it is such an embarrassment. Kasich has stayed on point and has been accordingly sidelined by the media and the voters. It is quite a stain on the GOP - can’t be denied. I don’t think you can pin this on Cruz though - he is a policy guy through and through. Now, whether anyone likes his policies…another question entirely. 🙂

I don’t think it’s unfair at all - if the GOP bills itself as the pro-life party – against abortion – and they pick a guy who has praised the wonderful work of Planned Parenthood, except for when it comes to abortion – and they pick him over Cruz or Kasich, both of whom are pro-life, that’s what’s unfair. You can’t say, “no taxpayer funds to PP,” and then check the proverbial “pro-life” box, and yet, that’s exactly what we’re seeing happening here. Cruz, and especially Kasich, are the ones getting robbed here.
Remember the days of ‘prolife’ Democrats? Extinct species (👋 including yours truly). I seriously question how many days the ‘prolife’ Republicans have. Trump is taking the party down a more secular, moderate road on social issues, though, in fairness, this has been in the air for more than a decade.

I think Cruz has his share of the blame - he has hardly run a clean campaign. He has not quite sunk to Trumpian levels, true. He has policies, but I don’t think he really wants to focus on his policies. He just wants to position himself as not-Trump and hope he sneaks onto the ballot that way.

Each of us can ignore the boorish antics of the candidates, go to their official web sites and just turn off the filtering mechanisms, like the TV and the internet.

It’s amazing that some of the candidates have stooped to this mean little kid level.

I’m not throwing up my hands and declaring that because some candidates act badly that I don’t care. I’m voting for whoever appears to plan on doing the least harm.

Heidi’s picture was also readily available.
I much prefer trump to cruz. Whenever I see cruz’s eyes, they look to me calculating, canniving, and untrustworthy to me. But that’s just me.
Cruz somehow has the appearance of a used-car salesman. (One of my friends says he looks like a vampire.) He has the mannerism of laughing after he says something important so that one doesn’t know for sure whether he is serious.

Amen. But I am concerned that voting is turning into a spectator sport. The Real Housewives of the White House. Yes, it is attracting voters, but for the wrong reasons. It is not about who is the ‘strongest’ or ‘has the most energy.’ Democracy only works if it is supported by well-informed voters and candidates. I agree that Obama has shifted the focus of this country from small constitutional government to an isolationist welfare state, which I don’t believe can be sustained for the long term. We need to pick the next President very carefully, with an eye to correction, putting the country back on course; this is not about who can tweet the meanest.

I just hope and pray that the Fox poll that came out yesterday (Trump 41%, Cruz 38%, Kasich 17%) indicates a new trend in said electorate.

Sadly, too many campaigns for too many things, including “consumer” products, rely on emotion. The dim-witted, wrong-headed strategy here is: “Who cares if we’re supposed to be grown-ups? We’re going to act like little kids because, like TV news, the theatrics and emotional reactions, get ratings/votes.” Which is why there are endless, until the election, threads on the internet about it.

The media wants us to be like too many internet forums: reactive first and uninformed. Skillful at tearing others down and not being helpful. And get invested in “after the news” ““debates”” that degenerate into shouting matches. It’s the media folks. Living like sane, intelligent people is now a bad thing.

Calm, reasoned, detailed reporting and the same for debates or even running for President? What kind of ratings are we going to get from that? “Controversy” sells.

Keep your sanity, ignore the theatrics and staged TV and internet conflicts and look up each candidate’s statements and voting records on the issues, and when there is no voting record, look at the statements and be a grown-up.

Do not - repeat - do not get caught up up in their fantasy world and games. Get the facts, like any adult would about any major decision, and do what is best.

Such sound advice. Pity that more voters don’t follow it.

Queenofheartscv. You mentioned about the Melania GQ Trump issues:

QUOTE:
I don’t believe cruz knew nothing about it.

I was waiting for your evidence on why you drew these conclusions . . . .

. . . . and you later went on to say . . .

QUOTE:
I much prefer trump to cruz. Whenever I see cruz’s eyes, they look to me calculating, canniving, and untrustworthy to me.

When this is your “reasoning”, Senator Cruz can’t win.

If Senator Cruz came out and disavowed the anti-Trump Super-Pac ad, people who already have a “visceral” animus against Cruz would just come out and say . . .

Well Cruz was trying to bring attention on the ad by “disavowing it”.

Cruz should have just kept his mouth shut!

WHY did Cruz say anything? I’ll tell you why. It was to bring ALL the focus of this negative attention on Mr. Trump’s wife. Very bad!

In other words, Senator Cruz just can’t win in your estimation—no matter WHAT he does or does not do.

If Cruz “responded” to every anti-Trump attack out there, Cruz’s opponents would just keep floating phony “balloons” that Cruz is supposed to run around “disavowing” each day.

Then people would criticize Senator Cruz saying:

“Well. He’s always focusing on these peripheral non-issues. He just can’t seem to be focused in on the “issues” a President should be focused upon. Belgium was attacked the other day and Cruz comes out talking about Trump’s wife”

He can’t win, with people like that.

(Hasn’t there ever been anybody in YOUR life, who no matter what you do, or no matter how hard you try to please them, . . . you just can’t win? And all the frustration that could entail?)

If you are going to write someone off because of their looks, there is nothing he/she is going to do that would satisfy your “political” aims.

Cruz doesn’t even respond to most attacks made against HIM!

Nobody made Cruz the advertisement “Sheriff” to run around “disavowing” attacks made against other candidates or their families.

He MAY (and HAS), but that is NOT the responsibility of Senator Cruz.

**Senator Cruz has had nothing but kindness for Melania Trump in his public comments.

Can you honestly say the same thing about Donald Trump’s public comments and photos posted about Heidi Cruz?**

As I said, just because the ad mentions Cruz, you CANNOT conclude that it was FROM Cruz. Anymore than you can conclude it was from Mr. Kasich.

NOT Kasich Oh yeah. This way I can divide Trump and Cruz. So I, John Kasich, will put this out for BAD PR for BOTH Trump and Cruz! Why its a “two-fer”.

This is non-sense.

And you never adequately addressed Mr. Trump and Howard Stern sitting around on-air, joking about Trump’s (then) girl friend, Melania being at home “naked”.

(details to all that including the links to the actual audio of Trump and Stern on the radio can be reviewed here)

That fact that a husband (or boyfriend) would DO that to his wife (or girlfriend) . . . and NOT stick up for her . . . . . doesn’t “bother” you a “little”?

If YOUR spouse treated YOU that way, would it be AOK?

It has been said, people take on the personality. . . . of the one they look up to.

Donald Trump, focuses in on people’s “looks” while being shallow on the issues.

Here is Mr. Trump to Rolling Stone Magazine . . . .

QUOTE:
When the anchor throws to Carly Fiorina for her reaction to Trump’s momentum, Trump’s expression sours in schoolboy disgust as the camera bores in on Fiorina. ‘Look at that face!’ he cries. ‘Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?!’ . . . . I mean, she’s a woman, and I’m not s’posedta say bad things, but really folks, come on. Are we serious?

(link here)

Trump later said he was merely talking about Fiorina’s “persona”.

I’m sure some people who write off Senator Cruz because they think Cruz’s eyes are “calculating, conniving (sic), and untrustworthy” would likewise maintain that they were really referring to Senator Cruz’s “persona” too.

As I said: It has been observed that people take on the personality. . . . of the one they look up to.

There’s a whole genre of propaganda focused against Senator Cruz’s looks, some of it couched in over 100 year old “science” (you can see it here) by a scientist.

These phony attacks on people’s appearance occurs frequently in media and is a PR trick for people to internalize themselves. Don’t be taken in by this.

Is it any wonder why so many people are off getting plastic surgery, botox, etc.

This is not persuasive.

I am still waiting for your evidence that suggests to me why I should think Senator Cruz conspired with an Anti-Trump PAC against the law to disparage Mr. Trump’s wife.

I am still waiting for evidence why . . .

QUOTE:
I don’t believe cruz knew nothing about it.

And bringing up the Carson fiasco to support this doesn’t help either.

QUOTE:
He knew nothing about the iowa carson fiasco either. I don’t believe him.

The “Carson Fiasco” and Dr. Carson’s own meteoric freefall in the polls needs to be blamed largely on Ben Carson himself (with a lot of “help” from Donald Trump). Not on Senator Cruz.

More on THAT in the next post.

All you have to do is look on their websites. Both candidates have substantive explanations of various policy positions, including taxes.

🙂 Alright. But while you’re catching your breath …

I was really pretty surprised how fast Mr. Trump’s people switched from blaming Cruz for that super-PAC ad, to attacking Cruz for not having defended Mrs. Trump.

But now the latest line that I’ve heard on this, coming from the mouth of Trump’s David Wohl, is “If you don’t have a sense of humor, you shouldn’t be in this game.”

Fascinating. :ehh:

P.S. Someone put that video online. It’s from the Kelly File:

For now I am going to withhold my post on Dr. Carson and “The Iowa Debacle”.

I am also going to hold all my posts on this thread for awhile.

Very tough world we live in.

And what about those who do not have computers but vote. How are they do hear what each candidate proposes if all the candidates do is spend their time insulting one another. Disgusting.
You do what we all used to do and most still do. You change the channel when the commercials come on, you throw away all silly things you get in the mail, you talk with you friends and neighbors, read the papers, read the Voters Guide, then vote based on the suggestions from your favorite organization (Sierra Club, Archdiocese, NRA, etc),straight party ticket, only non incumbents, incumbents, first person in each category, person you saw most commercials about, person you saw least commercials about, etc.
