Sigh, I guess the Pope and the bishops are no longer members of the magisterium. That’s okay, I know that many Catholic Republicans are in constant rationalization as to why one single issue makes it okay for them to continue to support the GOP.
You should really study the issues more.

Btw, there’s no such thing as “members of the magisterium”. Magisterium is another way of saying teaching authority.

I wish I understood it as well. But to be honest, after I heard that Bill Donohue (president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, for anyone not already familiar) came out in support of Donald Trump, I pretty much gave up on trying to understand such things.
Bill Donohue is not a member of the magisterium.

Bill Donohue is not a member of the magisterium.
Does that make it alright?

You don’t have to answer that, but regardless I’ve recently been reassessing donations to various Catholic organizations … you can possibly guess where the “Catholic League” fits into that.

Yes. Perhaps it was an unfair question – freedom of speech and all that.

But let me just say that he won’t get a dime from me.
He’s just a man. He may be trying to interpret Church teaching, but could be doing so incorrectly. I wouldn’t put particular weight in what he has to say on this topic.

Condescension is beneath you.

The Pope and the bishops have teaching authority. Teaching authority is not limited to those bishops that certain posters here choose to quote.

Now it’s “the 5 non negotiables”?

P.S. I decided to check out one of your links, but what I found there actually goes against what you’re saying:
As far as the Catholic Church is concerned, the principal focus of her interventions in the public arena is the protection and promotion of the dignity of the person, and she is thereby consciously drawing particular attention to principles which are not negotiable. Among these the following emerge clearly today:
  • protection of life in all its stages, from the first moment of conception until natural death;
  • recognition and promotion of the natural structure of the family - as a union between a man and a woman based on marriage - and its defense from attempts to make it juridically equivalent to radically different forms of union which in reality harm it and contribute to its destabilization, obscuring its particular character and its irreplaceable social role;
  • the protection of the right of parents to educate their children.

“We started organizing on the grassroots level last summer,” Athanasopoulos says. “You don’t show up a week before the state assembly and expect to win.” Unfortunately for the Donald, while conservative activists were organizing in Colorado for months, Trump’s campaign never got off the ground.
“Trump is very good at sweeping in on his private plane, holding a huge rally, and winning an open primary, because that’s how his campaign is built,” Athanasopoulos says. “But in Colorado, you have to be there, you have to put in the work, you have to put in the effort, and you have to do it months ahead of time. That’s how you’re successful in Colorado.”

And which one would that be? All of these issues fully align with Catholic teaching
That these issues take precedence over all other issues. You won’t see non-negotiable in Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship.

See my earlier question which nobody has answered:
But nobody seems to know how such negotiating would work. For example, what if we were offered $100 billion to become “neutral” with respect to the security of Israel. How would we negotiate on that?

Or what if it was a question of becoming a socialist country?

See my earlier question which nobody has answered:
I’m not exactly sure what your question is but if I understand it right you’re asking why the 5 non negotiables do not include those hypothetical issues you mentioned?
If that’s your question it’s simple, The 5 non negotiables address the current most important issues. I’m sure in the future there will be changes to the 5 issues mentioned, it just depends which way our society progresses and how we view human dignity in the future.
These questions are answered in the links above, some of those links have links btw

Well we’ll see. 🙂 Btw I did actually visit a couple of the other links beside the one I quoted from. They didn’t even mention negotiating or any form of that word.
The point is what we cant negotiate on, meaning there are certain principals “set in stone” that we as Catholics hold dear, and will not “make deals” on

The term, “the 5 non-negotiables” has to do with a phrase Catholic Answers used several years ago leading up to an election.

It was a list of five hot political topics that were being frequently publicly discussed but were ALSO intrinsic evils (this was not to say these are the ONLY actions that are intrinsically evil).

An intrinsic evil, is an action by which it’s very nature is wrong. Always wrong.

There are NO circumstances or exceptions or conditions where the actions can be acceptable (the culpability may be less for some people than others, but the actions themselves, since they are intrinsically evil, are not appropriate for consideration).

It was a catechetical Catholic information campaign aimed to help us as Catholic voters decide (by analyzing the issues), the best candidate.

They have already been listed here.

Hello Melterboy.

Great humor on your post here.
Why does lynnvinc get only a few lines and I get a whole Megillah?
I got a belly laugh on that:).

The Global Warming Hoax is the proverbial Godzilla of corporate greed. The movement from the top, is heavy on “control” and light on the “environment”.

Most of the Global Warming adherents don’t understand this element. But if you listen to the Warmist leaders they talk pretty openly about the control they want.

That’s what a lot of warmist adherents were complaining about after COP21 failed to produce enforced restrictions. They complained that “there is no TEETH in the agreement.”

The “teeth” is the control aspects that they have outlined elsewhere.

“Big oil” won’t have anything on these guys when they get their way.

POPE FRANCIS Yet it must also be recognized that . . . . Never has humanity had such power over itself, yet nothing ensures that it will be used wisely, particularly when we consider how it is currently being used. . . . . . In whose hands does all this power lie, or will it eventually end up? It is extremely risky for a small part of humanity to have it.—Pope Francis Laudato Si (104)

POPE FRANCIS Caring for ecosystems demands far-sightedness, since no one looking for quick and easy profit is truly interested in their preservation. Pope Francis Laudato Si (36)

Anyway poor lynnvinc already had to put up with the “whole Megillah” from me on this issue before. (see here, here, here, and here for example).
. . . The global warming agenda is about control . . . .
** . . . Don’t you think the Global Warming Agenda at least includes attempting to gain control of (or at least partial control of) global taxation, wealth distribution, a global POLICE FORCE, water resources, agricultural resources, mining, chemical engineering, waste management, and who gets to define research as . . . “science” . . . . or . . . . “not science”? etc. etc.?**
That is a LOT of POWER lynnvinc.
I don’t think it was the Pope’s intention in Laudato Si to sequester this kind of power to a UN group. Do you?
Don’t you think it extremely risky for a small part of humanity to have this kind of power?
We must be very careful to not give this kind of power over to a group. As human intervention to resolve a problem occurs, this “intervention” may actually serve to further aggravate the problems it alleges to solve.
A disproportionate influence from population controllers is present within the UN Global Warming movement.
This is enormous POWER for not-much-return from many dubious characters.
As Secretary of State John Kerry recently admitted (here) . . . .
“The fact is that even if every American citizen biked to work, carpooled to school, used only solar panels to power their homes, if we each planted a dozen trees, if we somehow eliminated all of our domestic greenhouse gas emissions, guess what – that still wouldn’t be enough to offset the carbon pollution coming from the rest of the world.
“If all the industrial nations went down to zero emissions – remember what I just said, all the industrial emissions went down to zero emissions – it wouldn’t be enough, not when more than 65 percent of the world’s carbon pollution comes from the developing world.”
Again. Incredible POWER for not-much-return.
Yet the global warming agenda seeks a $100 BILLION dollar ANNUAL PAYDAY!
Remember. That’s ANNUALLY. (That will undoubtedly rise in the future).
Most of this would come from the USA.
If I recall correctly the USA is already funding 400 million dollars and now President Obama, has pledged MORE money from my grandchildren and great grandchildren and yours too (which is where unpaid debt NOW will NEED to be paid from LATER. - Incidentally. Debt spending of this magnitude is a form of taxation without representation. My grandchildren have no political say in this matter, yet it is THEIR money being spent).
No one looking for quick and easy profit is truly interested in preservation of ecosystems . . . .
That’s WHY you see people like Hillary Rodham Clinton leaving a Global Warming talk in a private jet.
That’s WHY you see Al Gore buying a 9 million dollar 1.5 acre beachfront home near Santa Barbara California (this would be non-sense if he REALLY thought it was going to be underwater by the end of 2015), yet having another mansion in Tennessee. The LA Times article also suggests Al Gore may still have his Arlington Virginia home too interviewing a man who is called the Gore’s “next-door neighbor”. Yes this all may have changed by now especially with Gore’s divorce, but at that time he had AT LEAST THREE homes. Draw your own conclusions.).
That’s WHY the “Warmists” have already set up a proverbial “New York Stock Exchange” for selling “carbon” called the “Chicago Climate Exchange” (here is the link if interested). . . .
I’ll try to do something adding on the Global Warming Hoax later on this thread, but I want to do it in the context of Senator Cruz so it fits well with the thread.

Again, many thanks for the friendly humor.
