I guess that’s the difference between Australia and the US.

Yes, absolutely! In fact, until the gum trees were brought up, I was thinking it was some of the grasslands in Nebraska, by the Platte river.

The animal looks like an Australian Cattle Dog. Based on that I am guessing Aussie.
