Or why I don’t believe LDS posters who say they are only here to correct misunderstandings of LDS doctrine(not that I see any consensus on just what that is).

From the MAAD board and someone who posts here pretending a love of and participation in Catholicism.

*"I think that many members need to embrace the internet and become cybermissionaries. First, they need to gird up their loins for internet surprises that they may discover. I think that cybermissionaries need to have testimonies of steel or just don’t care what they may read or discover.

That being said, I have found myself on a catholic apologetic site defending the lds church against blatant anti-mormon former mormon catholics. It is rather sad because I do attend mass and would definitely defend the catholic church against anticatholics. But those guys over there are extreme in their antimormonism."*

I’ve never seen any actual defense of Catholicism from this poster here or on MAAD but whatever.

And a follow up post.

I don’t know if Daniel understands this. Many lds do not know about various facts that should be known before being good cybermissionaries. The shock and awe of some facts may knock a few off before they can become cybermissionaries.* I think that we** would need a special class for cybermissionaries that covers some of the problematic areas that they may encounter before sending them into the cybermission field.*

I think the “we” in this paragraph shows exactly where this posers allegiance lies.

I read that too. I’ve wondered when anti-Catholicism had ever been defended against. Here, or there.

On a related note:

Online LDS missionaries seek converts in the virtual world

"Boardman is part of a pilot program that calls on Mormon missionaries to attract new converts to the faith via the virtual world, rather than the traditional, face-to-face approach.

The portal into this world is www.mormon.org, a Web site the church established in 2001 primarily aimed at curious outsiders – a complement to www.lds.org, which is mostly for members and the news media."

Um, I’ve lurked over here for a while and I can’t see how there was ever any doubt where his loyalty was.

Well I don’t don’t see how one could read his posts and not see where his loyalty lies but the larger issue is his motives and those of the other LDS posters. As you can see from his posts on MAAD he holds to LDS beliefs and wants to present them here under cover of affection for Catholicism. I see this from other LDS posters and while here at CAF they may meet resistance, in other online venues they may make inroads with those not grounded in the Catholic Faith. They have as their target those not only those ungrounded Catholics but also those who are here to look into Catholicism.

From the behavior shown, posts on MAAD, tearing down of Catholicism (including misinformation spewed about history) building up of LDS people, and testimonies for the LDS church I don’t believe any LDS posters are here for anything other than cyber missionary work.

I wouldn’t say all, but certainly the vast majority. I came here looking into the Catholic Church and all their work has done is make me even more appaled at the LDS Corperation, er, church. God willing I will enter the Church along with my ex-mormon DH next Easter. Unfortunately in 2008 we came in in the middle of RCIA and in 2009 pregnancy complications kept me out, but third times the charm, right? Please pray for us!

I hope your username means the complications ended well.
