Da Vinci Code Rubish on Silver Screen

I just seen reported that Tom Hanks will star in the upcoming film based Dan Brown’s hstorical fantasy. do we have another LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST fiasco on the horizon?
 
I guess the only real question would be why wouldn’t it be made into a movie.
 
If that’s true, I guess Tom Hanks places Jesus in the same category as Santa Claus. :rolleyes: Kinda made up but its fun to “keep the magic alive” for the kids. Though Polar Express was excellent (he plays all the main roles in that I think, including “Santa”).

Maybe Hanks doesn’t know yet that Santa Claus comes from the Dutch-Anglicised Sinter Klaus = Saint Nicolas, a real eastern bishop of the fourth century. Both Jesus and “Santa” are rooted in history. Not to change the topic. 😃

There is a new edition of Da Vinci Code on the market. It’s very high quality hardback with lots of illustrations and graphics of old documents. I suspect it’s targeted at the Christmas market. $35.00
 
It is a lost and dying world, and we all need Jesus, even Tom Hanks. Plenty of lies in this world but only one truth, Jesus is God.

And the way to the Truth is through the only Church begun by the Truth… The Catholic Church and the whole deposit of Truth handed down from the Apostles. Praise God for His gift of His Church.

Well I would say it is a way to him but not the only way because that would make it a cult would it not?

Like your sig. I consider myself an apologist “Wanna-be”. 😃

The Da Vinci Code saddens me, with the number of people who seriously believe it’s truth. It’s amazing!

So, at my Parish, I’ve been trying to put together a Ladies Bookclub, using Amy Wellburns book “decoding Da Vinci” to target how the Da Vinci Code is full of false ideas of history and the Church.

What’s interesting is that we’ve had early ice / snow conditions, and impossible conditions every night for the past several weeks. So, we’ve rescheduled to meet during the day. Please pray that this goes well, as we progress next week.

I suspect that this is messing with the plans of the one who seeks to destroy the faith of many Christians. Pray that Christ allows this simple ministry to bring light to souls through our simple efforts.

Something about Mother Mary being not a Virgin or Jesus in love with Magdalene or some Hollyballoo??

Sorry if i seem naive, but i heard it was heresy, so i have stayed away.

Guess i can just do a google search.

the church teaches that we don’t know if or how God will save those outside of the catholic church.

but we DO teach that Jesus is the only way to the father. the ONLY way.

and this doesn’t make us a cult, by definition of a cult.
 
I have not read it. However, I skimmed one of the Anti-de vinci code books at wal mart.But Hear is my limited understanding of brown’s sacriledge. Basically, the story is told through modern thriller genre where the main idea of the mystery is that a particular internal order of the Catholic Church has covered up the truth about Jesus for 2,000 years that Mary Magdalen was head Apostle and was married to Jesus. This particular order charged with keeping this secret for 2,000 years not only from the world but the rest of the church is like a secret society desparate to keep truth from being uncovered and will go to any means necessary to protect its secret including murder. The clue is in Leonardo De Vinci painting of the Last Supper where susposedly according to Brown one of the apostles depected in painting is really a woman and that there clues to it that De Vinci planted in his own painting. Mary Magdalen later fled to what is today France, whose descendants are alive today and claim to be the descendants of Mary and Jesus (how absurd). The books (I’m told) also make reference to the ridiculous idea that Bible was canonized by Constantine in order to establish a patriarchal religion and therefore threw out the beliefs and scriptures of the original christians (ie, the Gospel of Thomas and the like).

The reason I started this thread is that I was High School when the Last Temptation of Christ came out. Some have suggested the Protests may have helped that movie in some way. I wondering what the response of the church will be. I think sign of what’s Hollywoods sleeve in the time we live.
 
Tom Hanks is supposed to Be Greek Orthodox as his wife is the same, she converted him. What is going on in those Orthodox cathechims?

Big Director in Ron Howard, Big actor in Tom Hanks, Big Book behing the Movie, Big Studio Big Budget this spells trouble I am afraid this movie is going to be a blockbuster like the book and destroy the faith of many christians particular catholic christians which is the subject of the histroy redux.

The thing with the Last Temptation is that nobody saw it. THe heresey didn’t spread outside of small circle of arthouse movie buffs.
I don’t think this will be the case in the very commerically appealing movie.

The only fiasco for Christians with regard to Last Temptation was that a lot of Christians made fools of themselves trying to protest the movie. Let them make the movie. We got the Passion, after all. It’s a free country.

BTW, as a matter of fact the real architect of the murders turns out to be a reclusive scholar who hates the Church and is trying to discredit it. Ironically, while the book doesn’t put the Church in a very good light, the Church is actually being framed. People never reveal this because it’s bad form to reveal spoilers. But I don’t care about form when dealing with a book like this. The book is trash, and while I won’t tell people not to read it I have no qualms about revealing plot points to take the mystery away.

I am not a Roman Catholic and I never will be. I am a born again believer in Christ. Catholics become very agitated when attacked by those of other faiths but many times they treat there supposed adversary in much the same manner. I agree with you about the Da Vinci code, it is a lot of trash. I am a former Catholic, I attend a Church of about 3000 people and 75% of us were confirmed Roman Catholics. Do you think all 2250 of us won’t get to heaven?

Well if you studied catholic theology you would have known we don’t know if you will get to heaven or not that is God’s business he is the judge not you or I, If you want someone to gurantee you salvation I guess your in the right place but that doesn’t make it true. THE JW"S deny hell that doesn’t make it true. Turth is not defined by what you beleive but what has been revealed by Christ and his church. What church are you going to anyway I hear the majority of the Assemblies of God churches were ex-catholics.
Same goes for the Adventist. Maybe you should try converting Muslims or you guys just good at bible tennis. My Bible verse trumps yours.
