Does receiving the Eucharist daily strengthen a person to NOT sin as much?

Is that one of its graces?

From the Catechism of the Catholic church:

“1416 Communion with the Body and Blood of Christ increases the communicant’s union with the Lord, forgives his venial sins, and preserves him from grave sins. Since receiving this sacrament strengthens the bonds of charity between the communicant and Christ, it also reinforces the unity of the Church as the Mystical Body of Christ.”

There’s a long tradition of seeing the Eucharist as strengthening us for our daily struggles. The lembas of The Lord of the Rings has been connected to this, if you’ve read the book (the movies missed it).

I can tell you posiitively that when you have a close union with Jesus, as you do when you receive Him daily, you give serious thought before you do anything you know is sinful. You may not always resist the temptation, but you do give serious thought to what you are about to do – offend the one who willingly suffered so much for you, The thought that I am disappointing Our Lord is usually enough to keep me away from any serious offense.

Several years ago I made a one-day retreat at a local retreat center on the Eucharist , and it was so inspiring I made a decision to go to Mass every day to receive the Eucharist. I feel STRONGLY that Jesus is with me for the entire day,and I NEED Him because my husband passed away a number of years ago and my children/grandchildren live far, far away. The Eucharist truly is the only thing that keeps me going.

Greetings Lisahiku,

Check out the Catholic Catechism of the Church paragraphs 1391-1398.

Holy Communion agments our Union with Christ.
Holy Communion separates us from sin.
Holy Communion strengthens our charity and wipes away venial sin. [Paragraph 1394]
Holy Communion perserves us from future mortal sins.
The unity of the Mystical Body: The Eucharist makes the Church
The Eucharist commits us to the poor.

These are but a few of the many fruits of the Eucharist. I am sure the fruits of the Eucharist are infinite, as the Eucharist is Jesus, and Jesus by being God is Inifinte.

I had to quote Paragraph 1392
#1392 What material food produces in our bodily life, Holy Communion wonderfully achieves in our spiritual life. Communion with the flesh of the risen Christ, a flesh “given life and giving life through the Holy Spirit,” preserves, increases, and renews the life of grace received at Baptism. This growth in Christian life needs the nourishment of Eucharistic Communion, the bread for our pilgrimage until the moment of death, when it will be given to us as viaticum.
Yes that is one of the many graces of the Eucharist.

God Bless.

Absolutely! We receive grace to fill in where we have lost it through venial sin, that gives us the strength to avoid both venial and mortal sin.

In addition, we are joined together with our brothers and sisters at the Mass, we hear the readings, we often hear a homily. Simply taking the time and effort to be there help us keep God in the forefront of our minds throughout the day.

Even if we can’t go every day, but even once or twice a week in addition to Sundays, we gain great strength and graces.

wish i could see some fruits personally. Oh well, maybe not trying hard enough.
thanks for the responses.

Greetings Lisahiku,

They are there whether we see them or not. [unless of course one is in mortal sin] 🙂 Don’t try. Just simply be thankful for the graces that you receive in taking Eucharist.

God Bless.
