Dancing With the Stars' Mario Lopez

I don’t know if anyone watches this on these boards… I guess it’s my guilty pleasure… anyway… If you do, have you noticed that Mario Lopez has made some very prominent references to his Catholicism? He has mentioned that the show is “tougher than the nuns in Catholic School,” he has his priest come to the studio to pray with him before the show, and he mentioned in an interview with the show’s hostess that his schedule is very busy, what with dancing, his job, and Mass schedule. I find this very endearing. Perhaps he is doing it all for publicity and to win the viewer’s votes… I don’t know. I also know that he is notorious for his infidelity to his wife of 2 days (a Miss USA!), but I still think it is kindof cute. Hopefully he has gone to confession and is “a new creation!” Any thoughts, anyone?

I watch the show…Mario is a very good dancer…quite handsome,too:)
 
Well, I didn’t want to mention that, being as I am a 38 year old married mom of 3. Wathching Mario could be a near occassion to sin! 😉 Ha ha! Just kidding! (Sort of? :rolleyes: ) He is adorable, no question about it! 🙂 And his little references to going to mass, ect. just make him more adorable in my eyes. (In a motherly way, of course!) And he is a wonderful dancer… his partner Karina is amazing, too! I hope I won’t get “in trouble” by saying all of this on a Catholic site… I am an orthodox Catholic and love my husband with all my heart! 👍
 
Yes, looks like Mario has turned a corner in his faith. He grew up here in my hometown of Chula Vista, and the hispanic community is very involved in the Catholic Church. I would not be surprised if he attended my parish’s school as a child.

He comes and visits his family twice a month here. On one of his visits a couple of years ago, I met him at a local karaoke club. Very nice, and kinda shy really! His mother and sister were great, too!

Yes, it’s wonderful to see him show his faith on the show!
 
I’ve never seen the show, Dancing With The Stars, but now I want Mario Lopez to win!👍

Oh my gosh… tune in! I love that show, and Mario is amazing! It is on ABC Tuesdays at 8 (EST). I warn you though… the dancing is very sexy and the costumes are quite… skimpy. (Except for the men). It might be considered inappropriate by some for a Catholic to watch. :cool:
 
My Husband & I do tune into Dancing With The Stars every week. Mario is such a natural dancer & I love to watch him & Marina. Mario is adorable both in looks AND in personality! He has a boyish charm, shy and very polite. I love the fact that he mentions his Catholicism regularly.👍 By the way, PLEASE! It’s time for Jerry to go!!

I love Jerry, but yeah, his time is up…and he knows it, too!

I think it’ll be a toss-up between Mario, Monique and Joey. Emmett Smith is so adorable when he dances, but he’s not quite at that calibur that the other three are.

It was wrong that Willa was voted off last week…😦

I thought I saw a look of disappointment on Jerry’s face when he learned that he was not leaving this week! Mario, Monique & Joey are really good, it’s true. I do love Emmett! He has alot of rhythum, unlike Jerry Rice(who was painful to watch). I’m not going to count him out. I liked Willa, too. I said to my Husband that maybe since Willa & Max’s “relationship” came out, it could have backfired on them with the public. You never know.
 
For such a “good catholic guy” I wonder why he couldnt go more than 2 weeks in his marriage before he got divorced over allegations he cheated during his bachelor party. 😃
 
Well- I know… I heard that, too, and that is why I mentioned in my first post that I hope he has been to confession (had a conversion of heart) and become a new creation! I don’t know all the details… just hearsay on my part, but I want to hope that he is sincerely a committed catholic and not dragging the church into scandal by mentioning his faith every week, even to the point of showing his priest coming to his dressing room, and then being promiscuous. I don’t judge him… I still think he’s adorabe, but if he wants to live by worldly moral standards, then he shouldn’t drag the church into it. It makes us look like we all just accept it as OK. On the Bachelor Party Woes thread, there is a good discussion of the dangers of Bachelor Parties.

Anyway- I totally agree… Jerry must go! He seems like a nice guy, but he’s the worst dancer by far. And if he wants to do society a favor, he can take his ridiculous show off the air while he’s at it! I love Emmitt… I think the fans do, too, but he’s not the best dancer. Mario and Joey are… and of the two, Mario is, in my opinion. Woo Hoo!👍
 
At least the fans did one thing right. To get rid of Vivica Fox. She was so busy patting herself on the back that she forgot about the fans calling and voting. She struck me as thinking she was better than anybody else. I believe Mario and his partner will be the winners when all is said and done.

You know, she gave me the same impression. She truly looked shocked the first second that she realized that she was the next to go. She did dance well, her attitude turned me off, others most likely felt that too.
 
Hmm. He just did a guest spot on “Nip/Tuck” though…one of the worst (morally) shows on TV right now. I’m surprised he didn’t find anything wrong with that…I saw a commercial a couple weeks ago for the next episode or whatever and he was on it.
 
Mario is young and feeling his oats… perhaps a little full of himself while coming across as shy and boyish… he knows he’s cute and he flaunts it. I guess I can’t blame him for this. He wants to make it in Hollywood, and there aren’t many “moral” shows out there. I suppose the verse “what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul” could come into play, but I want to give him the benefit of the doubt. I am glad he still wants to be Catholic, given the anti-catholic prejudice out there. We are all on our own journey towards holiness… we all need God’s boundless mercy. I am a wretch, too… thank God for His Amazing Grace! I’m sure the sactifying grace in the eucharist will transform Mario and all of us more into the image of Christ! Can I hear an amen? 😉 I agree with everyone about Vivica… she was WAY too confident and just ASSUMED she would win… almost bullying people into giving her good marks. I felt the judges were a little afraid of her. I thought Willa was really good and adorable, too… a travesty that she went and Jerry stayed! It’s really just a popularity contest. Jerry’s partner Kim is so cute, too, though. She’s doing the very best she can with Jerry!
 
Is it just me or is there some sort of “relationship” between Mario and his dance partner? Hopefully there is nothing (like her being married etc.) too controversial about it, especially if he is portraying himself as a faithful Catholic.
 
I would take all relationship rumors between any of the stars and professionals with a grain of salt. I think its all done for publicity. The professionals get a new set of celebs to teach each season… surely they don’t get involved with every student they teach… how “unprofessional” that would be (not to mention gross!) :eek: They are always judged on their “chemistry…” so I think that they try to stir up rumors of a relationship to make people think they have “amazing chemistry.” It’s all a big game. It’s about as much about “reality” as Survivor! Still… it’s fun to watch all the same! Go Mario!🙂
 
This thread made me laugh. My husband and I watch the show sometimes and at one point, I too was going on and on about how boyishly charming he suddenly seems–as the last I had thought of Mario Lopez was in connection with him cheating on his wife of two days, as other posters have mentioned. (I also remember a Tyra Banks talk show episode within the last year that he was on with his mother, who loudly told everybody that she leaves her son condoms–much to his vivid embarrassment…hopefully he was embarrassed due to his newfound virtue…ahem.) Anyway, my husband rolled his eyes when I was commenting about how shy he seems. He was like, have you forgotten what made Mario Lopez famous to begin with?? ACTING!!! (Implying that his boyish shyness is all just an act, but who knows.) I think he’s cute to watch, too, and I think he’ll win.

Just as a side note, I’ve had nothing but disdain for Jerry Springer over the last many years and watching this show has actually brought out a certain sort of compassion for him. He’s just an old man now.
