The first time I saw Mario Lopez was when, at around age 13, he played an illegal Guatemalan alien on THE GOLDEN GIRLS.
Dorothy (Bea Arthur) tried to get him a resident visa because he was such a bright student, but she didn’t succeed and he got deported back to Guatemala.

Mario has played a variety of roles, including that of
homosexual Olympic swimmer Greg Louganis.

Actors need to understand that being a Christian sets one apart. We are simply not permitted to do all the things done by those who do not know Christ. A Catholic cannot work as a hooker, for example. Nor should a Catholic actor play lewd roles, even if it is merely part of the story.

Mario is a very talented man, I’ll give him that.
I hope he finds favor with God.

I agree! I do hope he has changed. If not, bringing the church into it can just bring scandal to the church. His mom is doing the same by mentioning condoms. I have noticed that some Christian (and Catholic) groups are all pious and full of spirit, yet do not feel that sexual purity or chastity are at all expected or even possible. What’s that all about? I understand that some Protestant groups see it as “hey, I’m forgiven! It doesn’t matter what I do, I’m covered by the blood of the lamb!” but we Catholics know better! We can’t just go on our merry way, doing whatever we want, assuming forgiveness. It’s cafeteria- catholicism at its best. That’s why I hope that Mario has changed, or that he would just stop mentioning his catholicism. As an aside, I 'm a little irked that Mark Foley has found a way to blame the church for his perversion. Of course it’s the Catholic Church’s fault… what isn’t?

Mario is young and feeling his oats… perhaps a little full of himself while coming across as shy and boyish… he knows he’s cute and he flaunts it. I guess I can’t blame him for this. He wants to make it in Hollywood, and there aren’t many “moral” shows out there. I suppose the verse “what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his soul” could come into play, but I want to give him the benefit of the doubt. I am glad he still wants to be Catholic, given the anti-catholic prejudice out there. We are all on our own journey towards holiness… we all need God’s boundless mercy. I am a wretch, too… thank God for His Amazing Grace! I’m sure the sactifying grace in the eucharist will transform Mario and all of us more into the image of Christ! Can I hear an amen? 😉 I agree with everyone about Vivica… she was WAY too confident and just ASSUMED she would win… almost bullying people into giving her good marks. I felt the judges were a little afraid of her. I thought Willa was really good and adorable, too… a travesty that she went and Jerry stayed! It’s really just a popularity contest. Jerry’s partner Kim is so cute, too, though. She’s doing the very best she can with Jerry!
I live in LA and I have heard more than once from people that have met him that Mario is very nice in person. I am rooting for him and love the show. I found something very interesting at
latingossip.com/latin-gossip/mario-lopez-proud-to-be-single.html
A photo of Mario with a Singelringen. Singelringen means “single ring” in Swedish and is a sterling silver unisex ring that indicates for the time being, you are proud to be single. I heard about it on the NBC Today Show recently and decided to get one. I am still a good Catholic woman waiting for the right Catholic man.

He certainly seems nice on TV! He was very humble (is it sincere?) when Tom Bergeron saids “2 hunks coming up next” Mario pointed to Joey Lawrence! He and Karina were awesome in their waltz last night! They are beautiful to watch. I had to give Emmitt Smith 3 of my 5 votes, though, simply because he was so adorable on the dance floor. He did every dance wonderfully! I’m torn! But I do believe Mario will win… He’s such a natural.

As for finding a good Catholic man… it’s worth the wait! My husband was lukewarm in his teens and early 20’s, but still went to mass in college, even when he didn’t “have to.” i had no religion, but when we started dating, had a conversion and became a born-again evangelical protestant. I remember how over-the-top obnoxious I was to him… telling him how he needed to be saved! 😛 Thank goodness he was patient with me. He would go with me to my new-found “mega church,” but always felt uncomfortable and out-of-place. I thought he was just being difficult! One day he left a book about Mary’s visions laying around, (he must have gotten it at the library) and I picked it up and began to read. Instantly I believed… “why hasn’t anyone told me that Mary is appearing to people on earth?!?” I wanted to talk to my big-church pastor, but as luck would have it… he was too busy to talk to me and I needed to make an appointment during “normal business hours.” I had just started a new job and couldn’t take off yet. A friend suggested I talk to a priest. I cringed, but in the end, the priest called ME to talk! I came in to see him, and began RCIA the next week! Now my husband and I are blissfully Catholic, and the beauty of sharing faith together is such an intimate bond. All this to say… it’s worth waiting for! (unless you can find one you can mold, as I was, to the faith?!?- my husband was patient with me on that front.)

I don’t know if anyone watches this on these boards… I guess it’s my guilty pleasure… anyway… If you do, have you noticed that Mario Lopez has made some very prominent references to his Catholicism?
Was this before or after his mostly nude (full rear view) appearance on Nip/Tuck this season? Talk about your guilty pleasures…:o

For such a “good catholic guy” I wonder why he couldnt go more than 2 weeks in his marriage before he got divorced over allegations he cheated during his bachelor party. 😃
Yes the boy is notorious for being a playboy, and yes he cheated on the Doritos girl:bigyikes: :banghead:. If he can’t be faithful to her, then who??? I don’t like that he mentions being catholic so much, he makes being catholic look bad with the reputation he has. He was under the impression that messing around was okay even when you’re married. When he does that he either makes it seem as though catholics don’t follow thier own rules or that Latino men don’t have a faithful bone in thier body…now being the same nationality as he is I prefer to think that Latino men don’t have a faithful bone in thier body…being I’m divorcing one for the exact same reason his wife divorced him.

Mario is cute and all, I’ve thought he was cute since Saved By The Bell…but I don’t think he should be the poster child for a good Catholic…just my opinion:D .

Lexee- I’m so sorry for what you’re going through. I will include you in my prayers.

I love to watch Mario dance and I would caution charity toward the individual before giving any faith to the Hollywood stories about people. We don’t really know why his marriage didn’t last. He may have done something inappropriate that fell short of sex at his bachelor party and his new wife believed the rumor. We will never know. I think the Hollywood rumor mill could start a story about a saintly person and get it on the gossip shows 10 times a day to stir up ratings.

I refuse to believe unsubstantiated rumors because I (a non-celebrity in middle America) was the victim of such a campaign during school.

Someone started an ugly rumor that I was having a secret intimate relationship with a male friend. He was in fact just a kind person who publically expressed affection to close male and female friends by placing a hand on the shoulder or arm or by chaste hugging, etc. Because I didn’t gossip or hang with the barhopping crowd, I was just about the last person to hear the rumors. The worst part was that someone told my friend that I had started the rumor (what kind of twisted morals would make starting that kind of rumor about oneself good)? I found the whole thing very distressing. It ruined my reputation as a Christian woman and damaged a friendship with no basis in fact because someone chose to give the worst possible interpretation to what they thought they saw.

Agreed! Regardless of Joey Lawerence’s religion he should be the one talked about and praised here for reflecting true Christian or Catholic values. I just find Mario Lopez a phoney.

he is very handsome…can dance,too…😛

I have to admit a guilty pleasure of enjoying this show also…

But am I the ONLY one who cheering for Emmitt Smith? I think he’s so talented…
Well, not to mention that he played for the GATORS! 😃

GO EMMITT!

I like Emmit, even though he played for the Gators(😛 ) he is the best athlete dancer they have had on the show.

I love Emmitt, too. He’s so cute. I think this competition is wide open… Mario is probably a definite… but who will be with him in the finals? I will be happy for anyone that wins.👍

In case you didn’t know, Joey was voted off last night, so now it’s between Mario & Emmett! I like both of them & I wish we could have two winners! The Tango Mario performed the other night though was a WOW!

Emmitt has one thing going for him that Mario doesn’t. Cheryl Burke. She is really awsome, and probably the best dancer of the bunch. Go Emmitt!

I agree with you, too. Cheryl Burke is an awesome dancer/teacher & I do love Emmitt! (not to mention he played football for The Gators;) ). Mario looks professional & has a dancers body. Emmitt is a big man who has proven he has rhythum,is light on his feet and he can move!

I really think Mario is the better ballroom dancer. I’ll give them both a fair shot to impress me tonight. If I’m undecided, I will go with Mario, because Emmitt has already won some World Championships with the Dallas Cowboys, and all Mario can lay claim to is “Saved by the Bell.” By the way- they are showing those again in the morning, and Mario definitely looks better now! And it is shameless the way they have him strutting around in a tight little wrestling leotard in that show… exploiting his teenage assetts! At the time I probably didn’t think anything of it, but now that I’m a middle-age mother (actually only 5 years older than Mario) I find it troublesome!

Well, last nite Emmitt and Mario ended up in a tie, as far as judges points go, so the outcome will be decided by the fans. Tonite should be really interesting. I think Mario has more talent, but Emmitt has more appeal and showmanship. Go Emmitt!
