Officials said that since last year, municipal and state authorities had been trying to collect about $95,000 in welfare benefits that had been wrongly paid to 29 citizens who had gone to Syria to fight for ISIS.
Until now, national regulations have made it difficult for the authorities to stop benefit payments to a suspected militant, even if the person had been identified by the intelligence services as an ISIS fighter. Officials said investigating the circumstances of individuals in Syria or Iraq was logistically challenging.
What a country.

In Australia the welfare system is hooked up to the immigration computers. The day you as leave the country your welfare payments are automatically cancelled.

The only exceptions to the rule are:
  • Disability Support Pension
  • Bereavement Allowance
  • Parenting Payment single, and you are widowed
  • Carer Payment, and you are caring for a pensioner partner
  • Old age pension
Having said that, there is a time limit for overseas trips (6weeks) and if anyone on the exception list has been found to be involved with terrorist organisations that payment is cancelled.

I saw this yesterday… The Danes are currently trying to change the laws to allow exceptions for situations like this. But they are not sure if they will be able to do so thanks to the socialists.

This general topic does highlight how foreign recruits fill the ranks of ISIS. Surprisingly, recruits from Trinidad and Tobago being problematic and close to home, for the US. Whether it be Russia, UK or the US they have citizens that have become ISIS terrorists (some notorious) - that should make one very unsettled.

ISIS is both a religious and ideological group that will probably morph with Al-qaeda out of necessity once they lose the capitol of the caliphate, Raqqa. Which is in the process of happening.
