If you’re a guy, have you dated someone older than you, say by 1 or 2 years? If so, how was it? Did the age difference ever become an issue? Thank you in advance.

Yes.

Wonderful. See Ben Franklin’s advice.

By the way, it’s delicately interlaced with satire. Some CAFers can’t read satire (or humor) without thinking that it is serious. Recall that angels can fly because they take themselves so lightly.
Did the age difference ever become an issue?
No.

I have, and it became a bloody issue! It felt like dating an older sister due to the bloody age difference.
Oh, and before anyone overreacts, “bloody” can also mean “damn” in British English.

I married a woman 16 years my senior. Best thing I ever did…👍
She is the Love of my life.

The age difference has become an issue, but only in the sense that she is now terminally ill with Alzheimer’s dementia - generally a disease of the aged, and I am, at age 57, her primary caregiver.
However - even that has been a great blessing for both of us.

Peace
James

I’m five years older than my husband. The only “issue” we have is that we have different frames of reference regarding songs, television shows, and important current events from our childhood. I have memories of events that occurred before he was born. 😊

You must be pretty young if a year or two has made that big of a difference. With age, that small age difference doesn’t matter.

From you postings James you sound like a wonderful man. God knew that your wife would need someone like you in her life as she aged. Thank you for being the man that you are for her, yourself and the glory of God. I will be praying for both of you.

I’m 22. It IS that big of a deal to me.
The problem for me is would she understand my views, hobbies and interests if she older OR younger than me?

It was probably just that woman.

I have always dated men who shared the same views, hobbies and interests as I regardless of the age difference. Granted when I was your age they tended to either be my age or no more than 5 yrs older. If it’s a big deal for you than only date 22 year olds. It’s a shame though that the perfect woman for you may be 23 or 24 and you could be missing the chance of a lifetime to be with her.

If you’re a guy, have you dated someone older than you, say by 1 or 2 years?
Yes. Nearly 3 years, in fact.
If so, how was it?
Went pretty well, I think. We did get married, after all.
Did the age difference ever become an issue?
Nope. Of course, we met, dated and married when we were in our late 20s/early 30s. Age difference becomes more and more irrelevant the older you get, probably because our brains don’t finish developing until the late 20s these days so it takes a while for a level, emotionally mature playing field to develop.

I occasionally joke about my “cradle-robbing old lady,” but that’s about it. 😃
Thank you in advance.
Hey, no problem! 👍

Let us look at this from my interests and hobbies. The odd thing is, older women are not very fond of anime, video games nor cosplay. Younger women tend to go for more famous anime that are mediocre (there are famous anime that aren’t mediocre), go for really boring games or view cosplay as a ladder to fame (all thanks to the likes of Alodia Gosengfiao no less).
Sad thing is, there are few actual female gamers here in Manila.
I had become stricter in my age range partly due to the lessons learned from previous romantic failures and partly due to interests. Hence, my current standard is that she must be up to 9 months older than me or 9 months younger than me.

Uh I was 18/19 when I dated someone 10 years my senior. I enjoyed her company probably the best.

Age is just a number pal, don’t get all choked up over 1 or 2 years. She did and she missed out on the best guy in her life.

At 22 or even 24 I would not have dated a guy younger than me. But I was old for my age. I’ve been completely on my own since I was 18 and I needed someone who knew who they were, where they were going, and who was independent from his parents. And I’m picky so I also wanted someone with an education who was at least starting his career.

I think my husband could have written this post. I’m 3 years older than he is and we don’t even remember this is an age difference until somebody asks how old either of us are.

I dated a guy who was 10 years younger than me when I was 39. We had a lot of fun at first, but eventually the age difference did show, in the sense that at 29 he still had quite a bit of maturing to do. Broke my heart, but I eventually recovered and he is no longer an issue in my life. But, I also have to say, I’ve given up on dating since him and that was 12 years ago. I’m comfortable being single, though I do occasionally have concerns about growing old alone. But I guess that’s where my trust in God will shine.

I use to (and still do) tease that when my lady was graduating high school I was graduating potty training…😃
She use to call me her “child groom” - a play on the more familiar “child bride” expression.

When we first got married, we use to get a kick out of the surprised/flabbergasted looks of people who mistook us for mother/son…

Gosh we had fun…

Peace

James, I’m so sorry your wife has Alzheimer’s dementia. May God bless you for taking care of her–I pray He undergirds you and supports you as you care for her. Your love for her is obvious.

As a female, I think I could have dated within a year or two younger, but I am an old soul. My husband is almost eight years older and I tease him about being in the Navy when I was in elementary school, but other than that it doesn’t really matter. My best friend is in a divorce process; her husband was 22 years older, which was a complete generation, and it really was not workable for them. Once you’re over 25ish I think a reasonable age difference is doable. Best wishes, either way!

My wife is seven years older…no big deal. Mostly it’s a source of amusement.
