I don’t know where you live, but the hippies in my area are 50 to 60 years old and mostly just sit at coffeehouses, sell unicorn stuff at the Ren faire, and strum guitars. I suppose they probably smoke a little weed and some of them may have occasional sex, but like most 50-year-olds they don’t advertise it. I tend to live in boho/ art areas and I frankly find them more friendly and less anxiety-inducing than whitebread suburbia, but YMMV. It’s good for a kid to know there are normal, nice people of many religious persuasions out there and that includes Wicca in my book, with a calm parental explanation of how we Catholics do not practice it.

Reality, there are very few statements that can be made about Wiccans, what they believe, or what they practice that would be even close to universal truths. The truth is, some self-proclaimed Wiccans DO worship Satan. However, most of such are not the mentally stable type. I would guess that most people who are actively teaching their children Wiccan worship are probably emphasizing nature-based goddesses, rather than Satan.
 
Very true, but Wiccans are willing to say “this is Wicca” and “this is not compatible with Wicca.” Not to the extent that we do, but few religions have religious leaders invested with the extent of teaching authority that we have…and even we have a few Catholics who are more Catholic than the Pope, LOL!!
 
True. My point is, and my advice to the OP, is to get to know the parents. (which most people would attempt to do with their kid’s best friend anyway.) A few visits with them ought to give you an idea of what you’re dealing with and whether you ought to be concerned or not.

I’m not going to add anymore to the discussion, but I had to laugh at the
“Smoking a little weed” comment.

It brought to mind when dh was on our lawn with the torch eradicating the little dandelions.

Somehow I don’t think that’s what you meant. ☺️
