An Archdiocese of Washington statement has warned that a DC City Council’s Committee on Public Safety and the Judiciary has “narrowed the exemption for religious freedom” in a bill that would legalize same-sex marriage.

“We are not threatening to walk out of the city,” Gibbs, an archdiocesan spokeswoman said. "The city is the one saying, ‘If you want to continue partnering with the city, then you cannot follow your faith teachings.’ "

The ball is in city council’s court now.

This is what happens when you confuse language.

Prior to the 1980’s, nobody spoke of a homosexual partnership in terms of “marriage,” not even the people advocating for legalized unions. Somewhere along the line, advocates appropriated a religious term to describe it. Now language becomes vague, and previously clear lines that would be hard to cross become fuzzy and easily crossed.

Separation of Church and State does not only apply to the Church interfering in the State. It’s a two-way street, and unfortunately, the current leadership of the Democratic Party does not understand this. How far the Democrats have fallen since the days of JFK.
