Because of what the saints quoted above have said, I believe that my deceased dog returned to God when she died. Now I don’t know if that means she will return to me someday when I die or not. But it is consolation to know that she has returned to her Maker. Therefore I would imagine she is at peace with or without me.

OP, I would not bring this topic up with your friend. I think it is too soon. The wounds are too deep & fresh. Perhaps ask St. Thomas Aquinas & St. Maximillian Kolbe to pray for him to gain peace & understanding.

That has always been my consolation at the loss of a pet. They belong to God and I cared for them for a short time but they are in God’s hands now.

Animals have a spirit of life force in them and when they die this life returns back to its source which is God.So it doesn’t seem to me that far-fetched that God couldn’t recreate this life back from what it was on earth and put it in Heaven.This could be one of the secrets of Heaven.

That said, even the Church agrees that all living things have a soul. It is what animates us and makes us alive. My own belief is that all creatures have a soul that is commensurate with the type of creature they are, and the soul, after death, goes to an appropriate place for that type of soul. Human souls are capable of contemplating God, so we go to Him. All other creatures go to their own place of being that is appropriate for them.

The soul is/has an energy, and energy cannot be destroyed so it has to go somewhere. I don’t believe that animal souls just cease to exist. Even a dead animal’s body doesn’t completely cease to exist. It breaks down into it’s elements and the elements always remain. I think that animal souls do go somewhere, just not to our heaven.

What? How many heavens are there? I didn’t know there was a tree heaven.

How about this: two heavens, one with animals the other without. You pick.

What about the tree heaven? Can a person pick that one? I would like to pick a heaven with unpolluted fresh water lakes, no dogs, nice shade trees and beautiful fish? Is that possible?

In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve didn’t eat the animals. Apparently we were never supposed to eat them until after the flood but now we do. Just because we eat them now, that doesn’t mean they don’t have immortal souls. Humans can be eaten, too. Our immortal souls didn’t stop Jeffrey Dahmer.
