That has always been my consolation at the loss of a pet. They belong to God and I cared for them for a short time but they are in Godās hands now.Because of what the saints quoted above have said, I believe that my deceased dog returned to God when she died. Now I donāt know if that means she will return to me someday when I die or not. But it is consolation to know that she has returned to her Maker. Therefore I would imagine she is at peace with or without me.
OP, I would not bring this topic up with your friend. I think it is too soon. The wounds are too deep & fresh. Perhaps ask St. Thomas Aquinas & St. Maximillian Kolbe to pray for him to gain peace & understanding.
Memaw and Rosebud,
This is a moot point as all of this is speculation. I always enjoy your posts and i can argue till the cows come home on this because it is opinion based I am sure you both can too⦠But to what end? 50 pages of debate, no concrete answers and everyone mad at each other.
But that is not my intention here⦠what I think we can all agree on is that no one really knows for sure what heaven brings.
We can though, respect each otherās thoughts on this.
I have to leave for church now, and wish you a blessed Sunday.![]()
Exactly. All talk of animal souls and animal afterlife is pure speculation. I donāt care if St. Augustine or St. Aquinas opined on the subjects. Even if they received a personal revelation from the Almighty, their opinion becomes āprivate revelationā and not official Church dogma.Animals have a spirit of life force in them and when they die this life returns back to its source which is God.So it doesnāt seem to me that far-fetched that God couldnāt recreate this life back from what it was on earth and put it in Heaven. This could be one of the secrets of Heaven.![]()

That said, even the Church agrees that all living things have a soul. It is what animates us and makes us alive. My own belief is that all creatures have a soul that is commensurate with the type of creature they are, and the soul, after death, goes to an appropriate place for that type of soul. Human souls are capable of contemplating God, so we go to Him. All other creatures go to their own place of being that is appropriate for them.
The soul is/has an energy, and energy cannot be destroyed so it has to go somewhere. I donāt believe that animal souls just cease to exist. Even a dead animalās body doesnāt completely cease to exist. It breaks down into itās elements and the elements always remain. I think that animal souls do go somewhere, just not to our heaven.
They do go to our heaven, as an episode of The Twilight Zone called āThe Huntā confirms. Case closed.Exactly. All talk of animal souls and animal afterlife is pure speculation. Animal souls are NOT immortal which is what would be necessary to live forever!! When they die, that is the end. They have served their purpose in Gods creation just like all other creatures and trees etc. I have to have my BIG tree cut down and it is the biggest tree in our town as far as I know. It is rotting on the inside, We found that out when one big branch feel off and landed right across the street in front of my house. I thank God no one or car was under it. But as much as I liked that big ole tree, I donāt plan on seeing it in Heaven. God Bless, MemawExactly. All talk of animal souls and animal afterlife is pure speculation. Guess we canāt argue with the Twilight Zone!!! God Bless, MemawThey do go to our heaven, as an episode of The Twilight Zone called āThe Huntā confirms. Case closed.
Life is immortal and animals have life in them, and that life came from God, and God can do whatever he wants to do with that life.Animal souls are NOT immortal which is what would be necessary to live forever!! And not only that, it was proven on āThe Simpsonsā that Catholic heaven is waaaaay more fun than Protestant heaven. They do go to our heaven, as an episode of The Twilight Zone called āThe Huntā confirms. Case closed.
The trees have their own tree heaven where there are no fires, kudzu or chainsaws.Animal souls are NOT immortal which is what would be necessary to live forever!! When they die, that is the end. Only human life is immortal. Then why can we eat animals??? Even Jesus did that. Your right, God can do what HE wants but we canāt tell HIM how to do that!!! God Bless, MemawLife is immortal and animals have life in them, and that life came from God, and God can do whatever he wants to do with that life.
I thought that the writings of the Fathers of the Church were part of Church Tradition?I donāt care if St. Augustine or St. Aquinas opined on the subjects. Even if they received a personal revelation from the Almighty, their opinion becomes āprivate revelationā and not official Church dogma. .
What? How many heavens are there? I didnāt know there was a tree heaven. The trees have their own tree heaven ā¦
What about the tree heaven? Can a person pick that one? I would like to pick a heaven with unpolluted fresh water lakes, no dogs, nice shade trees and beautiful fish? Is that possible? How about this: two heavens, one with animals the other without. You pick.
Eating their dead flesh has nothing to do with their souls. But why are you so adamant about an uncertain issue? What is you source of authority?Only human life is immortal. Then why can we eat animals??? Even Jesus did that. Your right, God can do what HE wants but we canāt tell HIM how to do that!!! God Bless, Memaw
When it comes to animal souls, the Early Church Fathers could only speculate, just like we are doing now.I thought that the writings of the Fathers of the Church were part of Church Tradition?
In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve didnāt eat the animals. Apparently we were never supposed to eat them until after the flood but now we do. Just because we eat them now, that doesnāt mean they donāt have immortal souls. Humans can be eaten, too. Our immortal souls didnāt stop Jeffrey Dahmer.Only human life is immortal. Then why can we eat animals??? Even Jesus did that. Your right, God can do what HE wants but we canāt tell HIM how to do that!!! God Bless, Memaw
Your right because their life souls are not there anymore. I never tried eating a live cow or pig, did you?? I might ask why are you so adamant in your opinion??? What is your source of authority. The Catholic Church has NEVER taught that animals or plants or bugs etc go to Heaven. God Bless, MemawEating their dead flesh has nothing to do with their souls. But why are you so adamant about an uncertain issue? What is you source of authority?
