If I see a dead dog or cat in the road, I leave it there. There are people whose jobs are to remove the roadkill.

The OP is not talking about our own pets. He is talking about any cats or dogs killed on the roads. They should be left there and cleaned up by the authorities. That has nothing to do with how we value an animal.What would you do with a human?

I whole heartedly agree with you my friend. however…I would advise letting sanitation or the crows take care of anything left dead on the side of the road. What if the animal died of rabies or distemper or some other nasty ailment. I would not want you to fall ill. Ridiculous. Animals do not have souls. We don’t have a Mass for them at their death. Their purpose is for man’s benefit. Call animal control and don’t touch it.
That is where you are mistaken animals do have have souls, just as plants do. The difference is the human soul is a spirtual soul not just one that gives life.
Maybe we don’t have a mass, but you can certainly the pet’s owners pray for them and ask God to take care of them once they have died. We have done that whenever we have had pets die. It is very comforting to all of us, and especially to the kids when the they were younger. They knew the pets were being cared for by God now.
