We have a rosary group which would meet weekly. For the past month we have had a new member who has some theatrical training join us.

Bertha (not her real name) has a very strong voice. Her voice overwhelms the rest of us. She says her prayers “reverently”, Our Father - pause for 2 beats - Hallowed (with the stress on the low). We would announce our intentions for our rosary, clip through the rosary in 15 minutes and then do concluding prayers. We would then have some fellowship.

Since Bertha has joined us, the “whenever 2 or more are gathered in My name, I will be there I am” spirit we had, has been destroyed and attendance is dropping. Our rosary now takes 45 minutes as she sets the pace and it is annoying for the rest of us.

I don’t know what to do. The rosary group meets in our home. I tried to gently sound her out on this issue, and she told me that I don’t say the rosary correctly. She said it should be “In the Name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”. I asked her what I say. According to her I say “Name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.”

Maybe its just because I am getting older but I would just tell her frankly that she is creating disharmony in the group and if she isn’t willing to accept that, then suggest that she find another. I would wager that she when she realizes that she isn’t going to change everyone else, she will excuse herself.

My suggestion:

Tell her fellowship is a big part of the group. Let her know she needs to speed it up to accommodate this element. I agree with the previous poster more than likely she will move on.

Your in a tough spot. I will pray for you.

Why do you allow her to set the pace?

Share the decades. So in my group one person is the leader. He says the intro prayers and announces each meditation. Then people take it in turns to say one decade of Hail Marys each. Then everyone says the Glory Be and Oh My Jesus. Then back to the leader to announce next decade, then a new person praying a decade.

You could get this person to say the intro Our Father and 3 Hail Marys

Maybe your new prayer partner concentrates on the holiness of the prayer and can’t “clip through” the prayer. I don’t have any advice as the Rosary takes me more than 15 minutes to pray.

I hope this gets resolved and you can achieve harmony in your prayer group.
