I never said that you were. My scripture citation is merely one that explains why one such as I should make efforts to help others get their beliefs corrected when they err.
This is also Catholic teaching from the New Testament called one of the
Spiritual Works of Mercy. the first two of which apply in this case.
It also points out that the final results are between the person and God
You need not be so defensive GG. Canāt you just take things objectively?
I do wish youād pick the top Catholic doctrine that you disagree with, open a new thread on it and let us see if it has much merit. We can do that here in Apologetics with a view towards discovering the truth.
I also note that you have changed your religion to āChristianā from āCatholicā which is curious. What church do you attend now then? I feel sure that you did not just come up with whatever objections to Catholic teachings on your own, so who helped you to āsee the lightā?
I have some thoughts for you CM before I leave.
You should help others to understand their faith. Too many people donāt. It comes off a little too strong. Itās good for some and turns some off. Iām sure you know what Iām talking about since youāve been witnessing for a long time it seems.
Since you understand that the final results are between the person and God, then you must also understand that it is NOT our DOCTRINE that saves us but the Lord Jesus who went to the cross for us. Do you really think God is Catholic or Baptist or Lutheran or Jewish? God is God. Heās bigger than all of this. Whether or not I believe in purgatory, for instance, has NOTHING to do with my salvation. The only thing that saves me is my walk TOWARD God and away from satan. So that one day I may meet Him at the end of that walk.
Itās difficult to take things objectively and not be defensive when every thread Iāve been on has not produced good fruit. Instead of discussing the topic at hand, it somehow turns into an attach on me. It may partly be my fault since when I express my opinion Iām seen as an outsider instead of as a sister in Christ. Iām starting to understand this. Itās sad.
So these are the doctrine I donāt agree with.
- Confessing to a priest. Jesus gave the Apostles this authority. Did they pass it on?
I thought only God could forgive sin. The N.T. states EVERY gift that was passed on from Jesus to the Apostles and to the next generation. No mention of confession.
Plus, do you realize what problems confession causes? The teaching of confessing each sin instead of turning oneās life over to Jesus makes for much confusion and misunderstanding. I hear of scrupulousity in these threads - no such mention of this in Protestantism.
- Purgatory. Iām so tired of hearing 1 Corinthians 3:11.15 refers to Purgatory. Do a study sometime on the word āfireā in these verses. Go back to the Hebrew and see if the second āfireā in verse 13 might not refer to the work of Jesus.
Plus, do you realize it means that Christās sacrifice was not SUFFICIENT.
Are we getting to heaven because of Christās atoning sacrifice OR are we getting there under our own steam? The decision must be made.
- Infant Baptism. At baptism we are justified. How is a baby justified if he doesnāt even know God or is able to make the decision to serve God? Justification happens when we decide to serve the Almighty. Even the early church Fathers knew this and wrote about it. And why does the CC insist on mixing up Justification and Sanctification?? We donāt have enough difficult stuff to sift through? So the work of sanctification begins when a baby is 3 months old or a year old? Doesnāt that screw up the doctrine of our sin nature or concupiscense?
Those are the biggies. Iām not starting any threads because Iām not here to convince anyone of anything because to me you could believe all of the above and I wouldnāt say youāre not saved, or youāre incorrect. God will judge by the light we have. No need to argue. I was hoping for fellowship because not too many people in the real world like to talk about God. And I do - but about His love and how weāre the same - not argue about whatās different in each Christian sect. Although I donāt agree with all protestant doctrine either, like OSAS for instance.
I explained to you that I attend a Catholic church now, but that I cannot consider myself a true Catholic. On another thread I spoke about having spoken to a priest a know this morning to make sure about something I had said and a poster said I LIED. Using that word. Maybe he doesnāt have access to priests, but I do. So how would THAT make you feel? A bit defensive, Iām afraid.
I like you and will pray for you to continue in your work. I was looking up something about Amoris Laetitia and the famous chapter 8 and I think it lead me to something of yours. So please keep working for the Kingdom.
Iām really sorry this didnāt work out for me. I picked my name because Iām interested in spreading around Godās love and grace and mercy. I donāt like condemnation and I see a lot of it in different churches.
