You never did answer Mark’s original question. Say you car broke down or something. Would you go to a Mass in the Ordinary Form if needed to satisfy your Sunday obligation? If the Pope came to your area, would you refuse to go to see him if it meant that you’d have to go to an OF Mass?
If my Car broke down I’d take my Truck and if it broke down I’d take my Camper and if all three broke down then perhaps it would be the Will of GOD that I go to the OF and since that hasnt happened - then I should assume it isnt his will under the same line of thinking. And BTW I did See the Pope (JPII) already in St Louis I waved as he went by and I didnt even have to go to an OF Mass to do it.

To the non-trads reading this:

OK, so I cannot say “it’s just a matter of preference” because I don’t believe that. Nevertheless, I don’t want constant hostility with non-trads. What can I say that would help you to deal with my “offensive” views? Here are some ideas I’ve had:

“I could be wrong.”
“I don’t think that being a trad makes me a better Catholic than you.”
“I don’t want to offend you.”

Sometimes it seems like we are making such different assumptions that we just can’t communicate with each other. Tell me how to tell the truth in a way that does not hurt or offend you.

i agree with you.
it seems the main theme for liberals is tolerance. yet they show no tolerance to EF, it is forbidden in most place. where is the tolerance? Jesus did not show tolerance to those who wanted to make the House of God a corvil of thiefs.
Well said. I knew before I hit send what expressing ones opinion on this subject would mean. Because you are right - there is no tolerance for those of us who love only tradition. We are deemed outcasts.

for us Traditionals, we dont have the option to go to EF the Mass of always because the NO bishops dont allow it. so, the NO is in much greater advantage which leaves us without the matter of preference. so, the EF is the one being suppressed and feared.

dont mean to start a contraverse. just wanting to point out the issue.
I think you are approaching the issue the wrong way. Our bishop for one is very supportive of the TLM, and yet there is only one FSSP parish in our archdiocese. Its not about supressing it but the feasibility of establishing EF masses. Fact is, a great amount of Catholics in a given area prefer the OF over the EF. If there is an EF mass in every parish, how many people would attend it regularly? There is so much that goes into that decision so please do not throw out unfounded suspicions of conspiracy theories unless you have solid evidence that there is one in fact.

a beautyfull Tradition giving to us by the Jews, today it is despised and spitted. the modernists wants a new Church controlled and ditated by humans. they dont even realize that by doing that; they are despizing what God has giving us. just think what would happened to the Jews if they had authored the Worship God had commanded them to do. we dont choose how to Worship God. He gave it to us but modernists wants to destroy what is of God to replace with their own. just think of all the changes that has happened and how the holy father is almost alone fighting against it. thank God for the Traditional Church which God has protected and preserved for a times like these. the gates of hell will not prevail against it. Gloria Deo.
the modernist dont even seem to understand what the holy father is talking about.

I do believe it is about preference. But oftentimes discussions between the OF and EF isn’t about what one prefers, but that the other form is painted in a negative light. Its one thing to prefer one form over the other, its another to say the other form is not legitimate, suspect, questionable or even outright a sacrilege. Thats not about preference anymore.

This is the source of the tension. Its not about traditionalists preferring the EF, but there are some who just because they go to the EF feel they are superior and holier than those who go to the OF. I don’t believe that and the Church doesn’t believe that. Why would the Church propagate something that gives people half the grace of the other one? She won’t. The Mass is not Coca-Cola where you have regular Coke and diet Coke. The OF is not diet Mass where we get half the grace, or some would even claim its Mass Zero, no grace at all. Its just another form of the same Roman Missal. If you find great spirituality in the EF, then good. But don’t disregard that there are people who find great spirituality in the OF as well. If its not for you, then its fine. Just don’t expect people to have the same view as yourself because people are different that way. Be thankful to God that we are given many different ways to praise and worship Him in Mass. Not only through the different forms within the Roman Rite but also the other Rites as well.

perhaps the bishops of the world could realize that they dont have anything to fear by allowing the TLM instead of forbid this so desired Mass to the people. why do you think they are so against which is holy is the Traditional Mass? why do you think they are so against a Mass that has been passed on to us from the beginning to the point that the holy father had to interveeing? who has the problem, the Traditionas or the NO people?
all the Traditional Church wants is to be able to celebrate the Mass of all times? why are they banned from doing so?

There is a difference between helping a fellow person, and staying in a relationship with that person. If he tried to help her, but it wasnt working he had every right to break up with her at any point of the relationship, and go their seperate ways, there is nothing wrong with that, they were not married.
Yes, I see where I failed to make my entire point. But it seems that after the breakup the woman was left where she was. I should have said that he didn’t have to continue the relationship with her but at least help her get in line with the teaching of the Church.

We should always see ourselves as a blessing to other people. They are blessings to our lives as well. We are a blessing to each other. We should follow the will of the Father when He brings us together. He wants us all to return to Him, so we should do what we can to accomplish that.

Some threads here an OP will ask about an abuse happening in their parish. Whats the most common response? Go, run to the nearest TLM parish. But why? Perhaps you are the only one who recognizes the abuse, why will you let your fellow Catholics continue to live in error? Why not stay in the parish and effect change? Sure, its not easy, but what in life is? Jesus carried the cross and died for our sins, why are we chickening out of a little fight inside a parish when it is a fight for Jesus himself that He may be worshiped and glorified the right way?

I know that I am not superior or holier than those who go to the OF. I know it is a valid Mass and a means of grace. But I think that the prayers of the EF do not express the Church’s Eucharistic theology with the clarity and richness of the OF. I see this as an objective problem, not my personal feeling. How can I say this without causing offense? Or is this not possible?

Please read my earlier post in response to yours. I don’t think you are being fair in throwing out an accusation for something that you cannot prove. I do not want to retype everything again, but I have addressed all your questions in that post.

There is no “Traditional Church” my friend. There is only one Church that Christ established. There isn’t even a “Traditional Rite”, there is only the Roman/Latin Rite.

No one has banned the TLM.

Some things I don’t understand about the new mass"
  • Why does the Priest face the people instead of the alter when making the sacrifice? Doesn’t that imply the priest is there for the people instead of God?
-Why were these “tables” put in and the alter removed? Doesn’t a table imply a communion “meal” similar to the protestant version of communion?
-How come hardly any of the scripture readings from the new mass talk about “gnashing of the teeth” and hell?
-Why should we stand up to receive the eucharist? Doens’t standing up imply an equal relationship with God, when in reality we should kneel when receiving a king?
-Why should we take the eucharist in the hand? I don’t think we should- out of respect for God, and also out of respect for the priest who has sacrificed so much and thus deserves a certain exclusivity with Christ.

I disagree with approaching this as if trads are completely innocent victims. I have seen plenty of inflammatory and intolerant comments from trads and probably even written some of it myself. Both “sides” contribute to this problem and each of us has to take responsibility for what we are doing wrong, not just keep complaining about the faults of the other.

No, sorry. I didn’t mean to address my entire post to just you even though I was replying to your post. Sometimes its hard to separate my points which addresses your concerns and the general topic at hand.

If you go back on your sentence you will find your answer. You started out with “But I think,” then end with “not my personal feeling.” Kind of contradictory, is it not? Fact is many people see in the OF what you see in the EF. I have not been to an EF Mass, but I will go before the end of the month. But I was at a Chaldean Mass 2 weeks ago, and it was beautiful. But I don’t think it can spiritually nourish me the same way the OF does week after week. Once, yes. But regularly? The big reason is the language. Many people appreciate Mass more because they understand what is being said. You just have to respect that viewpoint that people see it this way. I do expect I will find the beauty in the EF, but like the Chaldean Mass I cannot see how that would sustain me spiritually because of the language. That is my preference. I have fallen from my faith and got back, all while going to OF Masses. So how can someone tell me the OF is no good? I definitely have found Jesus Christ in the OF.

First, kindly refer to the Mass as the Novus Ordo or the Ordinary Form. How would you like it if somebody called the TLM the “antiquated mass” or “old mass”? I have never heard this, and would never do it myself because of the level of disrespect it carries. I think it fair to expect the same consideration

Tables actually reflect the practice of the early Church. Stone altars did not come into use until the 5th century, to draw a stronger distinction between the Church and pagan altars.
As to the others, I do not have an answer for you. I am not a liturgist. But I can say that nothing that you mention falls under those things that are the substance of the Sacrament, but relate to the form, which can and do change over the centuries.

Robert: Well right now I can point to 6 different attacks to what I have written and my opinion is centered on what I as an individual think - I cast no aspersions on the beliefs of others and yet when I expressed that opinion I was for all intents and purposes called a Racist - a Pope Hater - a defector - a person willing to not fulfill my Sunday Obligation , Etc . So you might forward that opinion if you care to - but in this simple exercise - I challenge anyone to show where I have leveled the least bit of criticism over what anyone else does. I simply stated what I dont like and why. I have yet to point out a single fault in anyone else. Can those who responded to my opnion say the same?

You were never called a racist, which was made abundantly clear. What was criticized was your logic, which is faulty, at best.
