I have to be honest with you and tell you that it’s hard for me to feel any sympathy for you.

It sounds like you’re getting a dose of what Protestants go through here when we constantly have to put up with comments like “you should ‘come home’ (as though our churches are not good enough)”, “well, you just don’t have the ‘fullness of faith’”, “We’re the real church, you’re not”, etc. I’ve seen posters here declared that non-Catholics are not saved.

Maybe you should start to clean your own house first.

dear jim,I always think that both catholics and protestants are mainstream christianity thought we have some different belief.and i am a new christian(actually mentally convert and stil unofficial).so i know little about my religion christianity.so i never participate between this discussion about protestants or catholic argument.but it was the different case.bless you

Though i am the thread poster but i will try not to post any reply soon.Wise catholic and protestant friends can discuss about it.I just wanted the comments of protestants friends.I don’t want to quarrel with them or don’t want to quarrel with any branch of mainstream christianity.thanks.

“Pastor Jim”, the person you are addressing is a new convert from Islam and, if I am not mistaken, is having to keep his new religion secret. You could address him and his situation with a little more charity.

correcttion of my post.

Dear morning star 777,

What you are experiencing is the reality that Christianity is divided. I won’t compare it to other religions and their divisions because it would detract from your thread.

Christians believe in absolute truth, absolutely. If a Baptist believes he has the absolute truth, then everyone else must be wrong. If it’s a Catholic, same scenario. Western Christianity is famous for this and it’s disheartening.

It is a small minority that approaches Jesus simply and humbly, without religious affiliation and pre-conceived notions. Since you are a new Christian you can look at everyone and freely say, “What the heck are you guys doing?”.

Keep your approach to God simple. Don’t focus on the divisions, because they are going to be there whether you like it or not. Instead, focus on your relationship with God and let everyone else fight over theology.

Jesus asks that we come to Him as a little child. Keep that in mind. I am sympathetic to your plight, because you are stuck in a foreign country with no one to turn to really. But, God is pleased with you, my friend. He sees your heart. He sees your struggles. He will honor the desires of your heart.

Be blessed…

What was uncharitable about my post?
He is upset at the lack of unity among the different types of Christians. You’re telling him you have no sympathy? You tell him to clean his own house? He lives in an Islamic country and he is a brand new Christian, not even baptized! Your answer was incredibly uncharitable.
I disagree.

Of course you didn’t know this and I doubt that had you known you would have spoken thus.
No, I’m pretty sure I would have. You can’t say that you’re offended by being told by non-Catholics that Catholicism isn’t mainstream without considering what Catholics think about non-Catholics.

Well, brother, we can start here:

Sam has left Islam and embraced Christianity. He’s simply saying that he doesn’t understand the divisions in Christianity that don’t exist to such a severe degree in Islam. He hasn’t been able to convert publicly for fear of the retribution, considering that he lives in Saudi Arabia, which is extremely hostile to Christianity.

Of course you didn’t know this and I doubt that had you known you would have spoken thus.

Peace…

What kind of reasoning is that?

Of course someone can be offended by a comment by others even if the “others” are offended by something a 3rd party says.

???

Dear morning star 777,

What you are experiencing is the reality that Christianity is divided.
yes dear friend i also see that christians are divided and its a disaster for us:(.but thank you for ur long post with ur advise.and thank all christians friends also.God bless you and bless all christians and make unity among christians.:amen:

No, I’m pretty sure I would have. You can’t say that you’re offended by being told by non-Catholics that Catholicism isn’t mainstream without considering what Catholics think about non-Catholics.
Actually, I am personally offended by everyone who says that the “other group” isn’t mainstream, are heretics and not Christian. This goes for non-Catholics and Catholics. I don’t care who is doing the saying. Both groups need to get a grip, drop their excessive attachment to absolutes and theology and seek instead to fulfill the Great Commission.

I had a conversation with a non-Catholic the other day who talked about how wrong it is to pray “to” Mary, say repetitive prayers, go to confession, that Catholics are not Christian, etc, etc. I found myself defending these practices and trying to present what the Catholic Church actually teaches about these things.

In other words, I was a little perturbed at the narrow-mindedness, lack of instruction and overall hostility towards Catholics. I have the same feeling on here whenever I see a Catholic say that protestants are all going to hell instead of having any time in purgatory.

If people want to stick to their theological guns, then so be it. But, don’t disgrace the Lord Jesus by spouting a theology that is devoid of charity and peace.

Peace…

I find it offensive that you would think that Jesus’ atonement isn’t sufficient to cleanse from all sin.

First, I didn’t say whether or not I believed in purgatory. I was initimating the Catholic belief. The point was that the idea that protestants go straight to hell without recourse to Heaven is a deplorable theological construct that divides believers.

You seem to have a real problem trying to read between the invisible lines that you want to be there, but really aren’t. You really missed the whole conclusion of my post. In my mind, neither Catholics nor non-Catholics have everything right.

So, for a Catholic to say that a protestant is going straight to hell without knowing that person’s soul and standing before God, and for a protestant to say that a Catholic is not a Christian, is for me the epitomy of self-exaltation. I’ll let God sort out who is right, who is wrong and where they end up.

Peace…

Morning_star no it is not fair. Contrary to what anyone says we are one church. We may disagree on some doctrine but Jesus is still and always will be our Lord and savior.

Stay strong.

GOD Bless.

It happens…here, there, and everywhere. Just something we all have to accept when we venture off somewhere where others don’t think just like us. Relax, though. Not everyone is like that.

If it isn’t too much trouble, can I ask what led you to Christianity? If I read correctly you are in Saudi Arabia, right? It must have been terribly hard and difficult, but how were you even exposed to it? I knew there were underground protestants missionaries there, but I was honsetly unaware that the catholic church even had a presence there. Either way, I think it is fantastic. God bless.

Morning,
It is neither fair nor right for Christians to judge the salvation of another. We can have doctrinal disagreements, that is for sure, but we have an obligation to treat members of the Body of Christ with love and charity (not that we shouldn’t treat others that way as well).
I would also say that, unfortunately, there are those both Catholic and noncatholic who seem to not share this opinion. Sometimes the best thing to do is ignore and/or avoid them. Life is too short…
Hope that helps.

On the side, I think the moderators prefer we not post the web address of other forum sites. If I’m wrong, someone please correct me.

Pastor Jim,
I think it would help in discussions if you would list in your profile the nature of your church affiliation. Just a suggestion.

little correction. Morning Star and Sam are both converts to Christianity from Islam, but not the same person 🙂 Sam lives in SA, the OP is from Bengladesh.

Morning Star, no it is not fair…and this is something the West is suffering from…in the Middle East we do not argue about affiliations since we are Christians in the first place. Cross yourself in the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and the rest is details, at least among us lay people.
