Death of Father Leo Clifford

I was just watching REFLECTIONS WITH FATHER LEO CLIFFORD on EWTN
and after the segment ended they announced that he died this morning.

**I loved him SO much! **
He was very instrumental in my conversion.

**That voice, that always spoke such beautiful words of encouragement, **
will ring in my ears and live in my heart forever!

I love you Father Leo!
May the Lord welcome you into the light of His Face
and wrap you in His loving embrace,

I am so sorry to hear this. Father was a great priest. He inspired me so much that I wrote him a letter. He wrote me back and I was amazed that his letters were written with the same faith, flair and inspiration as his reflections on EWTN. We wrote back and forth a few times. One letter was so personal it almost brought me to tears.

I questioned him about his references to the theatre in many of his reflections. He told me that when he was a child his family had an Inn where theatre groups would stay. I’m paraphrasing as the letters are not right in front of me. He told me he offered Mass sitting down like the Holy Father (Pope JP II at the time) as the disease he had restricted him.

I am very sad at this news. Thanks for posting.

I am very saddened at hearing Father Leo Clifford passed on; I will pray for him. I think he is with Jesus now. I love his “Reflections” and tune it in every day. It is so comforting and inspiring listening to him. Father Leo leaves us a great gift to help us along in life, to help us learn to live like Christ!

God bless you Father Leo, I’ll miss you a lot

I just listened to the one on Suffering. I searched on Youtube to see if any of his recordings were made available and there are some: youtube.com/watch?v=3EdmLfGcFY8&feature=related I’ll watch them in time. It’s like fine wine that can be enjoyed a little at a time. I like to reflect on his presentation.

I watch his Reflections all the time on EWTN. Good, wise, and holy man of the cloth. RIP, Father.

I was privileged to have had Fr. Leo for a confessor for a few years. Before moving to New Jersey to a facility that could better care for him, he was a retired friar at St. Anthony’s Shrine in Boston (Arch St.) I called him my “Irish cousin,” because his mother shared my surname. A wonderful, holy priest, down to earth, full of love, and brimming over with salient observations on God’s providence and man’s folly. I met him before I ever saw his old tapes on EWTN. I can still feel his finger making the sign of the cross on my forehead as he gave me absolution. " I give you Jesus, your elder Brother… our sin is always that we forget…" Believe me, if you ever saw him on TV, or if you prayed for him, Fr. Leo is now interceding for you. BTW- his name at baptism was Dermott- that’s Gaelic for James.

**Thank you so much for your beautiful comments regarding Father Leo.
I would have loved to have had the privilege of knowing him personally.
I have shed MANY tears with him while watching his “Reflections”, and I have shared MANY tears for him since his passing. Not that I’m sad for him, but that I am sad at OUR loss of him.
I picture Father Leo entering into The Heavenly Kingdom and Our Lord taking him in his arms and saying, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
If ANY of us deserve to hear those words, Father Leo does.
It comforts me as well, to see your comment about him interceding for those of us who love him.
I feel certain, that we can count on that! **

I should have mentioned that Seamus is the more familiar name in Gaelic that means “James.” Dermott- not sure, but I do know that while Sean is “John,” Owen is also John in Gaelic- a boy named Owen is named after John the Baptist.

Is he the priest that does those reflections after the 3 PM Divine Mercy Chaplet and before the Rosary?

I had the distinct pleasure of filming Father Leo Clifford over ten years ago with Ted Donahue, a wonderful director and most generous man. He, too, has passed away. Father Leo was amazing in the way he could do one of his homilies and end it at exactly eight minutes. I must have filmed a dozen or more Reflections videos. We often filmed in Palm Beach in some of the most beautiful and inspiring backyards. I also went to New Hampshire one year to do some filming in the fall. I hadn’t thought about Father Leo for some time and I was telling someone a story about him and then found on the internet that he had passed. What a wonderful man he was. I miss Ted as well.
