Death penalty for child molesters?

As Catholics we should hold all life sacred, yes even child molesters. Therefore I’m not advocating the death penalty for them. Castration? Maybe chemical castration? Does it work? I dunno. Do you have any idea how many pedophiles there are in the US? Thousands! Thre’s probably one on your block. If you started executing pedophiles you’d be killing masses of people left and right. Most of these are men, although there are some women involved too. Some are ordinary citizens, even in law enforcement or clergy! You have to ask yourself why are there so many pedophiles nowadays? Is it because pedophilia has always existed and the internet is just making it easier to prey on children? Or are there actually more pedophiles these days and why?

no body feel even the slightest bit sorry for these people, who probably have alot of issues?

Nope!

Do you think they really want to be attracted to children?

Yes!

I had an uncle who had a very creative solution also.

Nail their scrotum to a stump, light the stump on fire and give them a knife.

These are VERY VERY good questions, and worth pondering on, I think.

Just so I am clear, I am not advocating the death penalty or castration out of a desire for bloodthirsty vengence. It is because the crime is so horrific. and of such dire consequences that it has to be STOPPED!! This is first priority!! These pedophiles are adults, ultimately responsible for therr actions. CHILDREN ARE VULNERABLE AND DEPEND ON ADULTS TO PROTECT THEM. They have done nothing wrong, had no free will or choice in the matter. They are who I care about and who deserve our sympathy and action. I believe God expects it of us.

I would even prefer life in prison with NO PAROLE (death is too quick), I am just frustrated with the short sentences and eventual release, that I have little hope for it’s success. It would need a complete and total reform in my opinion.

Arrrgh! Coyote that is a horrible image!

I think we need to be really objective - like a computer - when thinking about these issues, otherwise we get flamed up with a desire for revenge that can actually hurt us, not to mention those who we’re mad at. Our motivation should be protecting the innocent, not hurting the guilty.

Child molesters should be prevented from hurting anyone but should not be treated more cruelly than is necessary, and of course their right to life should be respected. Death penalty, cruel and unusual punishments etc. are right out. Putting them in prison for a long enough spell, with possibility of parole if they can show that they have really changed, would be the best solution. There are no children for them to molest in the prison.

If a person repeatedly offends after being released, then I think we would have to lock them up for life without parole, they can’t be trusted to be released back into society if they’ve already broken trust several times. Hopefully though, the system will be so good that no one will be released before being rehabilitated.

ARRGH!! :banghead:

This is the exact attitude that infuriates me. How many children need to be sacrificed in the name of giving these offenders a second chance. One of these innocents is too many, to give one who has ALREADY CHOSEN TO DO THIS another chance!!

You do it once … LIFE NO PAROLE!!

Please do your research the odds are AGAINST rehabilitation. It is people with attitudes like yours who are just as responsible in the death of Jessica Lunsfurd (sp.), who was murdered after spending three days in a closet being a sex toy for this monster who was a CONVICTED child molester, as the molester himself. The infamous Bill Malcom who raped a three yr old girl, only to rape her (the same girl!!) AGAIN, three yrs later after his release. To get her back, he claims.

Society needs to stop dropping the ball!! Perhaps there is no PERFECT solution … but if error needs to be … it MUST BE ON THE SIDE OF PROTECTING THE CHILDREN!!

ONE STRIKE!! YOU’RE OUT!!

Sorry for all the caps … but I do NOT agree we should leave out emotion and rely solely on objectivity. We are talking about people, innocent children specifically … not a math problem. Anger is not sinful in and of itself, and rightous anger is from God intended to MOTIVATE CHANGE.

It is the children who are in danger of an INNOCENT victimization, not the pedophiles. If the pedophiles encounter any injustice, it would still be a result of something THEY DID!! The children’s safety should always be first priority!!

Just my two cents…
I was molested repetitively when I was younger and I have just started to deal with it at the age of 16. It seems that more problems come up because people I talk to want to hurt or kill him. I think that blowing up hurts the victim more. I believe that bringing the death penalty upon the molester could bring much guilt upon the victim because in most cases they have a hard time bringing it out in the open in the first place for fear of what was going to happen. They don’t want it to be blown up. (It took me 11 years.)

My cousin and I were both molested by the same person (our cousin) and the difference between us two is that she is much angrier. While she has this right, she carries a bigger load because she has to hold that grudge. She is angry because both her mom and dad show anger. The people who are supporting the victim need to let them feel what they actually feel instead of showing them what to feel.

I noticed that I started feeling horrible feelings for him when others started acting angry towards him. But then I looked at the situation and realized how I actually felt about it instead of listening to what everyone else wanted me to feel.

So I say the death penalty isn’t right for this situation. I know my cousin will never be convicted and I’m okay with that… but he is getting help. I know that child molesters should be reported, but killing them doesn’t take away the pain for the victim and I think that is the most important.

If a person REPEATEDLY offends? How many times … two? Three?

And what could one possibly say to the children that these repeat offenses happened to?
“I am sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you. I’m sure you were very hurt, but it was of the utmost importance that we allow these people the opportunity to change. What? Why didn’t anyone ask you how you felt about risking your safety? Oh, you were the one who had something to lose? Well, we have to respect their rights … it was the Christian thing to do.”

I am sorry for you. You will see there are many stages you will pass through as you learn to “deal with it.” Being that you are so young, you have probably not even begun to see the many ways, what was done to you, has and will continue to impact you. Be patient with yourself and don’t try to rush things, better to deal with each facet as it unfolds. Your psyche, life and God has an amazing way of working out so you know what to deal with when.

I already pray for CSA survivors, but I will add you and your cousin specifically to my prayers.

It is even harder for you because it is someone you love.

I am not so sure your angry cousin with angry parents are so wrong. They should be angry. It’s a matter of directing thier anger at the right place. They need to start somewhere on their journey towards peace, and the truth is always a good place to start.

God bless you.

Were you a victim? Have you forgiven the offender?

REHABILITATION IS NOT POSSIBLE … and even if it was, the risk is too great …

They do far worse than murder their victims … the death penalty is letting them off lightly.
Who are you to say what is an appropriate punishment and what isn’t?

Furthermore, last time I checked, wishing death upon someone and claiming the title “Christian” don’t exactly mix.

That’s how Jesus works, right? 😉

If an infinite number of strikes is too much for you, let’s at least try to be like baseball, mmkay?

Let me clarify.

I don’t think we should give every child molester a second chance.

Under a good system all those who are released never do it again. And all those who would do it again are never released. Only reason I mention life no parole for repeat offenders is because no system is perfect and there may be a very few who repeat. Well, we can’t trust them again. So I guess I’ll give you a number - 2. You’re released once coz we’re sure enough you’ll never do it again. Turns out you’re the one who shows up the imperfection in the system, you do it again after being released. Then no 3rd chance.

Like you say we must err on the side of safety of the innocent. But there has to be some chance for the wrongdoer to rehabilitate. There has to be some forgiveness somewhere, it’s not our place to judge like God judges, you know? You can have a go at ‘doing the Christian thing to do’ but the fact is that our principles are important to make sure we don’t become monsters ourselves. As much as you would like to ignore this fact, child molesters are people too.

If the odds are against rehab, that means there would be a very few who are ever released since we need to be careful. But that doesn’t mean there would be none.

Are there any other crimes which are always life with no parole in all cases? Not as far as I know. This is why I say to leave emotion out of it. You’re angry because it’s happening to children, well fair enough. But while your plan for child molesters might be more just than the current system, I still think you take it too far to say once and you’re “dead”.

well if it is any consolation, they probably will get their asses raped and then later on beaten and killed once they are in prison. Even convicts have a conscience and hate those kind of people.

Hi all,why should children be put at risk from abuse , we in England have just had a case where a supervised sex offender raped a child under ten years old , veiwing child pron on the net has increased dramatically ,child porn sites on the rise

The number of child pornography websites reported to police increased by 78 per cent last year.
Members of the public sent 23,658 reports of suspicious content to the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF), up 37 per cent from 17,000 in 2004.
After investigation, 6,128 were found to have illegal content, up from 3,438 in 2003.
This 78 per cent rise compares to an increase of just 0.003% in the previous 12 months.
The IWF, funded by the telecommunications industry,
said the increase in public reports was down to public intolerance of child abuse, increased awareness of the IWF’s role and improvements in tracking down offending sites.
A total of 156 reports relating to UK offenders were passed to police, resulting in 14 arrests, it added.
The organisation’s annual report showed that only 0.4 per cent of potentially illegal child abuse content was hosted on UK-based websites.
The US had the highest number, at 40 per cent of child abuse content, with Russia on 28 per cent, Asia 17 per cent and mainland Europe 13 per cent.
The IWF is now working with international agencies in a bid to duplicate Britain’s success overseas.
IWF chairwoman Amanda Jordan said: "The public can feel confident in the IWF’s hard work over the last 10 years combating these shocking crimes.
"The test will be to bring the same commitment and effectiveness to other countries, particularly Russia and the US, where the majority of child abuse content appears to be hosted.
“Meanwhile, the IWF will ensure the UK remains a hostile place for those who engage in illegal activities online to the detriment of the majority.”
Diana Sutton, of the NSPCC, said the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) was getting the message across that internet crime was everyone’s responsibility.
She said: "However, we must not get complacent. The IWF report underlines the shocking number of images in circulation.
"While Internet service providers (ISPs) have shown that self-regulatory measures can go some way towards safeguarding children and young people, the NSPCC is calling for regulations to be put in place to make ISPs state publicly what they are doing to block access to sites on the IWF list.
"We would also like to see the pre-installation of Internet safety software on all new computers.
"The report also highlights the increasing need to forge closer relationships and pool resources with international organisations and overseas governments.
"The NSPCC is currently working in partnership with the new Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOPC) to be launched in April, which will extend these links.
"CEOPC will also allow parents, carers and professionals to report any concerns about the sexual exploitation of children, including online grooming, through interactive communication technologies.
“It is vital that we stay one step ahead in this rapidly-developing area and anticipate any emerging technologies which have child safety implications.”
i hope its alright to post this yours michael mcmanus ps a third of people who veiw child porn never go to court

Well just to be different, I say kill them all. Summery execution for all the members of NAMBLA.
Agreed. It is not an “illness” it is a choice. Therefore, there is no more horrific an act. Even if the person was a victim themselves, they must “choose” to victimize others. There are many other choices they could make, and to actually do what these people were doing is unspeakable.

This is true. Child molesters are the most despised of all the prison population and these will be at serious risk of death.

in Great Britian child molesters are separated from other prisoners from the time they arrive in jail , then they are sent to prisons that have wings just for sex offenders if covicted , yours michaelmac

My sincerest sorrow for what has happened to you. Please make sure that you find (or have found) a good counselor or therapist to talk with about this that can help you to work through the many issues that you’re certainly having to deal with.

God Bless and thanks for sharing your story.

Now it’s not necessary for someone to be a victim to have the deepest empathy for victims of these horrid acts.

Although, I believe rehabilitation of criminals is possible, it is not generally likely. By the time they enter the system, their personalities have developed such that they are not likely to change. Child molesters are even less likely to rehabilitate.

Remember, one in ten child molesters is caught. One in ten that is caught is convicted. By far, most molesters have had numerous victims before they are actually CAUGHT. So when you catch them, you must punish them fully and protect other children within the fullest extent of the law. They count on society’s “softness” on them to give them other opportunities to victimize children, the whole time playing the “victim” themselves.
