But here is the real question, We can all agree that Catholic teaching states that Homosexual acts are a sin, but as Catholics, do we have the right to lobby for national laws to ban same sex marriages on non-catholics. Isn’t that imposing our beliefs on others. We already, as Catholics, don’t accept that civil unions are legit anyways. What if some radical non-catholic group decided that Catholism was a sin and had enough power to make practicing it illegal in America? Don’t think it could happen? It’s happening all over the world in other countries right now. Do they have the right to do this? I think as Catholics we really must remind ourselves that we must respect the beliefs and values of our non-Catholic brothers and sisters and demand that they respect our beliefs. It doesn’t mean we have to perform same sex marriages in our church, but we should allow them to do as they please in their own Churches and Town Halls. Long live freedom of Religion and the seperation of Church and State.

No, in fact we gave an obligation to lobby to stop all that.

This poses a threat to her extra credit because her opponent is God-awesome at debates. How can we compete with this, assuming that these points may be addressed?

Ironically Yours, Blade and Blood
I recently wrote a term paper supporting and validating Catholic exorcisms for an abnormal psych class. The professor and doctor openly practiced Judiasm. On Saturday Sabbath we saw hide nor hair of him. Anyway he gave me the maximum score and heart felt compliments for my paper.
Try combining scientific study and your Faith together. In the end - like me - you may rely entirely on Faith and allow the listeners to believe the way you do. This is how it is when it comes to matters of Faith. You can lay just so much on the table then allow yourself and other to believe or not to believe. Such is the life we live here. No matter who wins - you always have your Faith. Keep your chin up and be thankful for your Faith.

WELL PUT!

Just as born-agains are obligated to convert all Catholics to their brand of Christianity? I mean They are just trying to save our souls from damnation. right? 😃

No, the real question is, how to prevent radical change in long established law by judges? The move to dissociate marriage and reproduction, which is what is occuring, is to disregard the needs of children in traditional families and divert social resources to adults who have --by all measure–few material wants. In short, the homosexual community is a special interest group that is claiming more than it deserves.

So with your rational, you were against slaves getting married in the 1800s and bi- racial marriages up to 1967? Both of these were banned and were long established law by judges. Is the African - American community a special interest group that is claiming more than it deserves?

There is an objective moral truth.

I mean if people want to murder who are we to say it is wrong?

And do you believe that only Catholism is the keeper of moral truth. The evil of murder, thank God, is a moral truth that crosses through almost all religions and secular groups.

If the Catholic Church was the dominate power in America today, would we have the right to force mass conversions on our Christian brothers and sisters? On the non-christians? How about the secular non-believers? If the Catholic church is the teacher of all objective moral truth, Think of all the souls we could save.

Truth is a person. The Church is a true teacher.
The evil of murder, thank God, is a moral truth that crosses through almost all religions and secular groups.
It crosses those lines because it is true, but not all understand that. Do we let those who do not understand murder?

No. And the Church teaches that is wrong.

But, you make a facile argument here. It is not that the Church wants to impose theological truths on people. She wants the government to be infuesed with moral truth. That truth which is known from the natural moral law that is common to all men.

Is skin color moral equivalent to immoral actions?

The problem is, is that we as Americans are not all Catholics. As such we have to protect the rights of others who also live here in this great nation of ours.

The nice thing about seperation of Church and State is it doesn’t only protect our government (from theocracy), it also protects our Church (from Government control)

Why do you compare black people with homosexuals? A majority of blacks voted in favor of proposition 8, whicjh suggests they don’t like the idea of homosexual marriage. If you read the Dred Scot decision, the argument was that blacks belonged to a different nation who, therefore, were not part of the “social Contract” that produced the Federal Constitution.
The 14th Amendment redefined citizenship to include blacks. Notice, however, that members of the Indian nations were not granted citizenship. That did not come until 1926. The courts allowed miscegenation laws in a concession to white prejudice against blacks. That was bad in 1950. In 1870,it was far worse: whites were afraid of racial war and they aimed to render blacks as powerless as possible. After all, the main purpose of marital laws is to provide for the proper transfer of inheritance. People didn’t want property passing from the white community into the hands of the black community.

I think that
Many important things
Are being said
In this thread
Of which to respond.

However,
Let me ask you again,
What secular concept unites us?

Negative health effects of homosexuality,

Homosexual couples experience significant higher rates of domestic violence…In regards to homosexual couples and domestic violence, a recent study by the Canadian government states that “violence was twice as common among homosexual couples compared with heterosexual couples**”.(Just nobody cares because a woman, genarally, is not involved, lol) **Also, according the American College of Pediatricians who cite several studies, “Violence among homosexual partners is two to three times more common than among married heterosexual couples.”,

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) from 1994 to 1997 the proportion of homosexual men stating they had anal sex increased from 57.6 percent to 61.2 percent**.(Even after the AIDS outbreak)** Although homosexual men may engage in sexual practices which may put them at risk, studies report that anal sex can be an important risk factor for the relay of many diseases. In addition, in regards to homosexuality and health, the homosexuality population has significantly lower rates of various measures of mental health,

In 2004, the prominent medical website, WebMD, stated the following: “Men who have sex with men and women are a “significant bridge for HIV to women,”(They are endangering others) the CDC’s new data suggest.”,

“ A survey by The Advocate, a homosexual magazine, revealed that promiscuity is a reality among homosexuals. The poll found that 20 percent of homosexuals said they had had 51-300 different sex partners in their lifetime, with an additional 8 percent having had more than 300.
Unprotected homosexual sex is also a concern among health professionals. A survey in Ireland by the Gay Men’s Health Project found that almost half of homosexuals said they were having unprotected sex**…(Again, even after the AIDS outbreak. And darn near demanding government funds to find a cure for AIDS) **

The fact that many homosexuals appear to live their lives in sexual overdrive does not seem to concern leaders in the movement. In an editorial from the same issue (August 15) in which the survey results were published, The Advocate said: “[Homosexuals] have been proud leaders in the sexual revolution that started in the 1960s, and we have rejected attempts by conservatives to demonize that part of who we are.”,

Just a few arguments.

And of course, being gay isn’t enough for them. They demand, and will take, marriage as their own.

And the overwhelming majority of gay’s, will not produce the next generation of taxpayers/workers, etc.

Plus, they push as much hatred and intolerance towards religious people as they, tthemselves, claim to be against.(tell your friend to turn the tables on them and expose their hypocrisy)

Play by the rules that they set up: They are haters. And we cannot tolerate haters, especially since they are 1) a super minority in the nation and 2) with gay marriage not being supported by the overwelming majority of Americans.

Tell them they should not claim to be a proponet of Democracy(as most Libs do[and most gay’s tend to be Libs]), yet disregard the overwhelming will of the majoirty of the nation.

Good luck.

So both sides accuse eachother of being
Selfish, violent, hating, dividers
So what secular concepts unite us as a country?
Selflessness, peace, love, …?

If indeed selflessness, peace, love, and unity
Are secular concepts which unite us as a country
Since there is still division
How are these secular concepts divisive?

Sorry, I didn’t mean to ignore you. Your right the constitution does not say “Separation of church and state”. The phrase “separation of church and state” is derived from a letter written by Thomas Jefferson in 1802 to a group calling themselves the Danbury Baptists.
Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should “make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,” thus building a wall of separation between Church & State.
If God does not unite us
What concept does?
I think God looks at things at a bigger level and thus unites all mankind.

What unites us as Americans has more to do with the democratic ideals handed to us by our forefathers, such as the Constitution. We all share the same beliefs of social order and freedom.
