Thank you for your honesty. I appreciate knowing the truth about how posters here at CAF feel about gay people.
It’s not a question of how I feel about homosexuals. What’s important is what the Catholic Church teaches about homosexuality and the practice of homosexual sex.

There is a part of me that wishes so much that the Catholic Church taught that homosexuality is a God-given sexual orientation, and that gay love is beautiful, natural, and totally acceptable.

That would sure make things easier for everyone.

It is very hard to see gay friends who are (by their own admission) involved in a sexual relationship, and know that what they are doing is wrong according to the Church. I wish this were not the case. I wish that what they were doing is right and good. I wish that all romantic/sexual love was “good” according to God.

I wish that all who love each other could be married and the marriage blessed and sanctioned by God and His Church.

But that isn’t the way things are. It doesn’t matter how I feel. What matters is what God teaches through His Church. It makes me sad, but it’s the way God’s plan is, and it’s not for me to try to tell God that He needs to change His plan.

If I was offensive in my post above and used words that caused hurt, please try to forgive me. I find it very difficult as a Catholic Christian to strike a balance between charity and righteousness when it comes to the issue of homosexuality.

How do we love homosexuals and appreciate all the good things about each individual, and at the same time, recognize that the sexual relationship between two people of the same sex is sinful? Do we just keep our mouths shut and never ever speak up, never ever say anything, and meanwhile, the Gay Rights Movement just keeps talking unopposed, except by a few foolhardy Republican politicians who get promptly slammed by almost everyone and labelled as “extremists?” Is that the right approach for Christian people to take–keep quiet and hold our peace? Wouldn’t it be better to offer peace? Or is not causing hurt more important than offering that peace?

IMO, that’s like not speaking up when we see a car about to run over someone. After all, we don’t want to startle them. So we let them get run over and lose their lives. Is that the way Christians should be?
