The decline of religious belief in the West and the growth of secularism has “opened the window” to black magic, Satanism and belief in the occult, the organisers of a conference on exorcism have said.
The six-day meeting in Rome aims to train about 200 Roman Catholic priests from more than 30 countries in how to cast out evil from people who believe themselves to be in thrall to the Devil.
The conference, “Exorcism and Prayers of Liberation”, has also attracted psychiatrists, sociologists, doctors and criminologists in what the Church called a “multi-disciplinary” approach to exorcisms.

I think theyre absolutely right.

Interesting article, thanks for posting!

Praise God! The battle against evil doesn’t end till THE END. I’m so glad they are addressing the issue of things demonic. We in the Church are vastly “understaffed” in this department. Go team!

I hope someday I will be in the under stated, under staffed group of exorcist priests. I would love that job.

BUT you know what we need is confession? Satan is more furious at the souls we take from in in confession than the bodies we take in exorcism.

After watching that movie, where the devil takes over the body of the exorcist himself, I don’t know if I’d love that job. The devil is just simply displaced, not killed or defeated.

Your point on confession is spot on, though. That’s exorcism enough, in my book.

Well, dangerous work for sure. Though i am not sure if that is a danger. I dont think it is, based on the book An Exorcist Tells His Story by Fr. Amorth, but its a much needed profession.

Perhaps we don’t need more exorcists, but a return to the old rite which some [exorcists] in the Church claim was weakened with the revision in 1999. According to some the new only includes prayers and supplications, rather than actually breaking the power of Satan as the old rite was exercised.

Yes. New Oxford Review had a good article on this a few years ago.

(This is a pay-to-read site, but there’s enough here to make the point.)

What this says to me is that the brainwashing in liberal media and institutions has intensified. IMO, there is no rational reason to reject the existence of a Creator. There are millions of observable miracles in nature which testify to the reality of God. Rob 🙂

I doubt Satan is that furious, after all, he is doing pretty darn well at gaining souls in todays world!!

Ive often wondered what the implications would be if in the end, Satan DOES in fact manage to have influenced more people and gained more souls than God…(more people ending up in hell versus those that go to heaven)…this would probably be extremely serious, and cannot imagine what implications would result. Im going to ask the senior priest at my parish about this, he is a very smart man, and I cant count the number of times he has answered questions and explained things to me.

If I understand this correctly, people are becoming less likely to believe things purely as a matter of faith - i.e. things they cannot rationally perceive. To combat this trend, the Church is going to focus more on exorcisms, which many people associate with a Hollywood movie. I don’t see how this would be of benefit from a public relations or perception standpoint.

I’m not understanding this either. If people lose the faith because of secularism, they lose belief in the spiritual realm. If they lose belief in heaven, they don’t believe in hell either. Correct?

I don’t see that it is a PR move at all. It seems to me that they’re saying that there’s a substantive need for more exorcisms.

You don’t think the Church would be correct in addressing the lack of qualified exorcists? Is that correct? HUH?

I apologize - I think my earlier post was misinterpreted. I don’t believe this is a PR move by the church. My comments were concerned with how those people outside of the church would interpret this topic. My point was that people who are non-believers generally don’t believe in anything supernatural - so surely they don’t believe in exorcisms. So if the church is going to convince non-believers to believe by hiring and training more exorcists, this will likely be met with bemusement by non-believers. That was the point I was trying to make.

You’re probably right about that, however it seems relatively unimportant if people are actually in need of exorcisms.

Implications? Alot of souls would be hurting for along time. It would be bad. It may already be true.

Uh, what about the fact that the bible and God himself has said good would win out over evil in the end, if satan has influenced and gained more souls than God/ Jesus, then imo, that means Satan has managed to win over more people, or in other words, more people CHOOSE evil over good, Satan over God, so how is good winning in this situation?

I think alot of modern day people not believing in any of this as something to do with the fact they never see any actions of God, back in biblical days, he did all kinds of things, many times in front of large crowds, so people KNEW he was something more than a normal man, yet in todays world, they read all this in the bible and look around at the world they live in, even back thru fairly recent history…where is there any OBVIOUS acts of God, Im not talking about an event that some say was God yet others say was a natural occurrence, I think if God showed himself more, interacted more, did more things like he did in biblical times, more people, especially younger people would get more involved.
