Lizzie:
Felt was in a high enough position that he could have taken evidence of any criminal activity by Nixon’s men to the grand jury. Real whistleblowers occupy much lower rungs in organizations.

And if Felt was so upset about the DNC break-in, why is it that he ordered illegal FBI black job break-ins himself? A legitimate Felt could have gotten a judge to issue warrants for his break-ins.

Felt was not a man of honor.
Oh, hogwash! Read my earlier remarks, please. Felt obviously thought the grand jury was not the way to go, perhaps because Nixon’s man, the United States Attorney, was in charge of that path - or perhaps because he did not want to go public with all the personal smears that would entail. It’s easy to be brave when it is not your head that is on the chopping block. Let’s all agree Felt was no hero, but was trying to derail a Presidential criminal conspiracy without getting personally chopped down

As regards the DNC break-in, it was aimed at political gain and was simply a part of a criminal conspiracy. Felt’s formally authorized break-ins were done for national security purposes.

The break-ins authorized by Felt were the result of a procedure long in use to authorize such break-ins for national security purposes, long thought to be legal as a reasonable exercise of government authority in both domestic and foreign national security cases… Such break-ins were discontinued when the Supreme Court finally ruled them illegal in domestic national security cases (Note that the Court left open at the time the matter of government authorized break-ins in foreign intelligence matters) As soneone earlier mentioned, new laws permit such break-ins based on probable cause presented and authorized by a court - legal procedjures that were not in existence at the time Felt authorized the break-ins based on reasonable cause national security was at stake. If you think of such government break-ins (read searches) in the same category as search warrants long issued issued by courts and based on probable cause, they become more palatable and understandable as reasonable under the 4th Amendment - which only prohibits “unreasonable” searches. Granted, Americans do not like any intrusions by government. For good reason, I agree wholeheartedlhy, but tlhey are necessary if a government is to survive its enemies…

End of lecture,
