I have a friend who is a very nice man, who, for the most part, follows Rome. Unfortunately, sometimes he gets sucked in by these viral posts/emails from things like Fr. Gruner’s group, the Remnant etc. I have to come at him with an intellectual discussion to sort of keep him from going off the cliff. Recently he shared something about the Divine Mercy devotion being condemned by Pope Pius XII and how it is supposedly “invalid”. There are two things I can think of but I’d like some more information to make an informed discussion. I can think of:
A) Isn’t any devotion/supposed apparition suspect by the universal church until it can be proven?
B) The devotion to Divine Mercy is not dogmatic (I.E. if he doesn’t want to pray it he doesn’t have to)
I tried Googling this and I came up with some weird sedevacantist sites that made me uncomfortable.
This is the link he shared (Please note I do not know the origin of the site)
