Those women have attacked Trump’s political policies, not his ethnicity or background. They have not said, if he does not like what they say that he should go back to Germany.
What would really be funny is to tell him to go back to Sweden and then come back and tell us how they do it, since their happiness index is so high, lol.
(He falsely claimed in
The Art of the Deal that his grandfather was from Sweden.)
I think the term “racist,” like the charge of “discrimination,” has been tossed-around and overused for political advantage so much that it is no longer useful in meaningful discussion.
This of course does not mean that no one is truly racist or that no one faces unjust discrimination.
I saw an Internet posting today that said “White people love dogs because they miss owning slaves.” I happen to thing that is an incredibly racist statement, but because it targets white people, its author would never be accused of racism.
I tried to explain to some high school students that while satire is not cruel when it is aimed by the weak at a ruling elite over their injustices and hypocrisy, even though it is cruel if the elite use it against the weak, racism does not depend on whether one belongs to a group that is in power or not.
I never cease to be amazed how people talk flippantly about poor whites as if they can be presumed to be to blame for not being prosperous in way that would never be tolerated if the comments were made about poor people of a different ethnic group. The truth is that the poor get the short end of the stick when it comes to opportunities for advancement and it is a false racial prejudice (ie racism) to fail to see this truism also applies to poor whites.
When everything is racist, nothing is racist.
That’s like the people who say “if everything is immoral, nothing is immoral,” implying that it must be the standards that are too strict rather than the overall level of morality that is too low.
You can define a racist however you want. You want to call Trump racist? Go ahead. Does that make you feel better?
Because it doesn’t matter what he says or does, it is still A-OK with you? I’m not sure what your point is, exactly, unless it is that standards of morality, ethics and civility do not apply to the President because, well, that is “just Trump being Trump.”
What was your point in saying that it doesn’t matter how racism is defined or whether or not the President is a racist rather than just an unusually blunt politician? I would think it matters a lot.
