Excellent. I’m glad that we all concur.

Now that that is settled, who is going to write the Magisterium and request that this change of Marriage to Chezzwazzered be formalized?

I nominate JamesG.

I already tell everyone that I would never be stupid enough to get married.

Of course then I tell them that I am only interested in holy matrimony

At that point only the good women I date stay around. 🙂

hmm… I wonder if the catholic church would let a couple reject a civil contract.

Just say to the priest, sorry we don’t support that secular document of evil.
That evil document would go a long way towards protecting your wife and kids if you lost a violent encounter with a bus.

ok but under the law there is a such thing as common law marriage.

In canada if you live with someone for more the six months you are considered common law marriage.

God will protect us anyway.

Common law marriage does exist, but it will put your wife through a lot of trouble to get all the legalities straight. She would simply be trying to demonstrate what could just as easily have been done with that $25 marriage license.

Do it the easy way before the bus, or the hard way after.

Ever notice God tends to help those who do a bit of planning?

Not all states recognize a “common law marriage”…what then??

Ahh…is it definition #2 (same sex marriage) that you are upset about?

As long as it is allowed/accepted in society I guess Webster will publish a definition:o
It may be allowed in some parts of the U.S. but it is not accepted. It has been mandated by judicial fiat and executive strong-arming (albeit briefly) in small quarters of the land.

Oh boy does this present a whole new problem! In college I had male roommates, and one actually decided that he was bisexual. So under common law marriage (using the new definition of marriage) he could have sued me for abandonment when I moved out. We were not partners, but try telling a liberal judge that. 😦

The whole definition is a secularist definition based on lust. We want love…

Perhaps if you do not like thier definition you should write them and complain and then perhaps provide them with the definition that you prefer or find more acceptable

I would like to see a particular word added to or deleted from the dictionary. What can I do?**

Every day, Merriam-Webster receives many letters from people who want to lobby to have a word added to the dictionary (often a term they have just coined) or removed from it (often because they find the term offensive). However, the selection of which words to include in the dictionary is not based on personal preferences or popularity-contest-style votes; it is based on usage. Simply put, to gain entry to the dictionary, a word must be widely used in a broad range of professionally written and edited materials over an extended period of time. Any word that has sufficiently widespread use in such publications is eligible for dictionary entry (for more details on how words are entered in the dictionary, read the article How words get in the dictionary).

Since words are entered into the dictionary on the basis of actual usage, the best way to get a word in the dictionary is to use it and to encourage others (especially professional writers and editors) to use it. The best way to work toward getting a word removed from the dictionary is to avoid using it yourself and to discourage its use in published writing

It still has the name marriage. The number of relationships called marriage continues to increase.

In Massachusetts the legislature failed to pass the constitutional proposal that would have provided a chance to overturn the judicial decision. The defeat of anti-SSM incumbents by pro-SSM legislative candidates helped achieve this result.

Might be a great idea to throw the whole book out and start over…

Neither love not lust are requirements for a relationship to be named marriage.

Love is a requirement. Lust is the opposite of love and the best definition of hell to be found.

You can be in a valid marriage that has no love in it anymore.

Then you must be in hell, let the rest of know what is like.
Actually I am not:D  I am one of those gals that is in a loving marriage …but I am stating a fact that there are marriages out there where the couple no longer love each other.
