Buckley says:

"…We will, everyone hopes, struggle through, but it’s worth remembering that democracy got us into this mess. Not because democracy is to be doctrinally rejected, but because democracy simply cannot be trusted always to do the right thing, in Palestine, in Bolivia, in Venezuela, in Weimar Germany, or in Iraq. "

Hey, anyone, yet, at the Catholic forum getting tired of America making the world safe for democracy or the Muslims taking votes theory of world peace?

At least he learned something about democracy when he studied political theory. A lot of folks don’t have a clue: Bush, for example.

And what exactly would Bush not know, oh wise one?

What’s your alternative?

The alternative? That’s easy. Stop doing it.

After all, if democracy caused the mess, if democracy simply cannot be trusted always to do the right thing, in Palestine, in Bolivia, in Venezuela, in Weimar Germany, or in Iraq, then why should we insist upon it?

The state is a necessary evil, responsible only for providing peace and order. The particular form of government is basically irrelevant. Any civil government that fails to provide order, law and justice is no more than a band of gangsters.

Among other things, Bush said he wanted regime change. That event occured in December 2003 when we captured Saddam. Draw borders: Kurds, Sunnis, Shiites. Put someone in charge who already has power. Hand out guns, if you like. We can set up a base far out in the desert or in Kuwait at the beach. I think twenty seven million Iraqis out to be able to handle 5,000 or 10,000 insurgents, right? Do they have a military draft in Iraq, yet?

When one half of all IEDs are only discovered when they blow us up, it’s an indication that the locals don’t want us there. Not just the insurgents, but the locals don’t want us there.

Therefore, we should obviously move away from them. Why hand out billions to corupt democratically elected officials who are useless? Why patrol around and get blown up? Get smart.

There are hundreds of alternatives to continuing to hit our head against an anvil.

Stop doing what?

And how will this cause the Palestinians to make peace with Israel, Al Qaeda to start loving us, the North Koreans and the Iranians to gived up their drive to obtain nuclear weapons?

Name two and explain how they will solve all our problems.
