My point is that I don’t understand how Christians can be supporters of chest thumping, nationalistic, “America first” rhetoric. Just as a demeanor in how the US presents itself to the community of nations, it just doesn’t seem very appropriate. How would other people feel if someone in their town named Joe went around telling everyone, “put me first,” “Joe should always be first!”? Everyone would probably consider Joe to be a jerk.
It’s kind of like you take care of your family first before you start running around trying to save other people.

I disagree that it is “chest thumping” and 'nationalistic" to do so.

What about those who have less than you? They may look at all you have and wonder why you think you have all you do. Why not just one car per household? Why not just a one bedroom one bath house? Why do you think you need to take that one overnight trip to Branson every two years?
Hey! Let’s not knock Branson. That’s about 30-40 minutes from where I live, depending on how many Kansans or St. Louisans are on the road worrying about the hills and hairpin turns, driving 30 mph.

Lots of people work in Branson. Lots and lots and lots, and particularly young people. If tourists want to spend their money so locals don’t go “Winter’s Bone”, (set in the same country as Branson) I’m all for them and won’t even honk at the flatlanders who drive 30 mph. 🙂

I will bet the person sleeping in a box by teh dumpster could use it. Maybe just the mattress.
Or maybe the rich person with 10 beds could give one to the person in the box by the dumpster, give me a new bed and still have 8 beds to spare. 😃

Oh no, not knocking them :D! That’s where we usually go when we get to go on our once every two year overnight stay! We are less than two hours from them. We even splurge sometimes and see both the Baldknobbers and an IMAX!

He can’t because he has 7 Chidren and one is for his parents when they come to visit! He is also not the person that believes one should look after everyone else before themselves. I beleive that is you! You are the one that needs to step up and at least give your mattress to the homeless man. I mean you still have the bed frame and your living quarters! Do the guy a favor won’t you and stop being so selfish!

Maybe that rich person with eight beds has already donated hundreds of mattress

Branson is actually fairly inexpensive compared to most entertainment centers. Your mention of the Baldknobbers brought something irrelevant to mind, but perhaps mildly entertaining.

One of my daughters attended law school in Michigan. There was to be a Halloween party of students and my daughter decided to go as a Baldknobber. The costume is cheap and easy to make. Her roommate asked her what in the world a Baldknobber is, so my daughter told her. Well, the roommate couldn’t resist, so she made herself a Baldknobber costume too. At the party, everybody wondered what in the world they were, so my daughter filled them in on it. Most of the students were from the north and east, and they had never heard of such a thing. Caused a minor “Baldknobber cult” there for awhile and my daughter took no few orders for Baldknobber memorabilia; T-shirts and other Baldknobber stuff.

Difficult to picture such a place. Where I live, the only people that desperate on an ongoing basis are drug addicts. I realize people in dire straits sometimes won’t move to where they can be gainfully employed, but it’s hard to understand.
Have you visited New York City, particularly Manhattan? Millionaires in penthouses and the homeless in cardboard boxes, and every SES person in-between, pass each other on the street on a daily basis and live side-by-side. It’s a curiosity and a shame.

As to Donald Trump, there is no doubt in my mind that he is “Wall Street’s champion,” and darned proud of it to boot.

One question I have involves what Trump said in his speech to Congress about Obamacare’s not working out in Kentucky. But then the former governor said in the Democrats’ response that it has worked very well for thousands of people in Kentucky. So my question is, which is it? Or has it worked when the former governor was in charge but is not working well more recently?

Actually, I have not visited NYC. Not sure why. Just haven’t. Not sure I want to now.

Living in my own world as I do, and being cognizant of horrendous places in other cities right next to incredible riches, or at least seeming riches, it seems very strange. “Winter’s Bone” was set here, and reflects some awful circumstances in my judgment, but they’re still a long, long way from people living in cardboard boxes. Even the “Winter’s Bone” situation (which is not at all common) wouldn’t exist except for drugs.

I am inclined to think people living in cardboard boxes are either insane or horribly addicted or both. But even the insane and horribly addicted live far, far better here than what you’re describing. “Winter’s Bone” conditions are at the very, very bottom.

There are some extremely wealthy people here, like the Walmart heirs, the Tyson heirs, the O’Reilley family, the Morris’ (Bass Pro, Brown Derby, Tracker Marine). They live well, but it’s not like you’re describing.

I really am having trouble understanding what you’re describing. No wonder everybody in New York at least pretends to care about the poor. But one would think they would actually do better by them.

I’m not persuaded yet that Trump is “Wall Street’s champion”. In his line of work, he would have crossed swords many a time with Wall Streeters. One remembers his fighting off all of Deutschebank’s horses and men when it tried to loot him. One couldn’t be in the world he was in and not have some bloody battles with some very powerful people. One remembers such things.

One remembers that it was introduced in stages, got more and more expensive as time went on, and is only recently starting to put the pressure on those with employer-based insurance. I’m not sure if the union plans have felt the full brunt yet. But if they haven’t, they will.

But you do need “them,” if you want to maintain a two-party system of government.
The Roman and Greek democracies vanished because the middle class people vanished…
This is happening in USA now. Not only because of the big companies who left the country, but also because people do not marry with the determination of keeping the marriage for their whole life. Alone is harder to buy a house or save for o little investment.

Google “Electoral College” and you will find your reason Trump is POTUS and not Clinton.
More specifically, the winner-take-all point system currently in force. Had electoral votes been cast in proportion to the votes cast in all states, Trump wouldn’t have had 306 EV.

Let hope he will real be the wall street champion!!!👍
He’s already a hit with those who financed his Trump Casinos, Trump Mortgage, Trump University, and on and on.

What can possibly go wrong?

New York has a housing problem. It’s true that many, perhaps most, of the homeless are either seriously mentally ill or drug-addicted, or both.

But the cost of housing is so high, and increases so fast (faster than wages) that many lower-middle-class people, and even middle-class people, are right on the edge of homelessness, and all too often fall over that edge.

A lot of people in New York do care about the poor, and do what they can (my wife and I among those who give money and time to the extent we’re able). But it’s brutal here.

For some reason when I keep hearing such posts from one person, they strike me as jealousy of Trump’s success despite those bankruptcies.
