Thank you. We pro-life Dems are few and far between, and we tend to keep our heads down, primarily because we irritate both the Dems and the pro-life folks so much . . .
I’m with you, and yes, I have to keep my head down. I wish there were a ‘Catholic’ party, or that Catholics could be under the Vatican or some such thing by agreement with the country they live in. It’s all utopian thought. Caesar will be a Democrat or a Republican until big money, PACS, and other special interests and lobbies are kept out of politics by law, and we have publically funded elections. At that time, the need for political parties would be pretty much be over. If all candidates were on an even financial playing field, and not having to hustle money, elections would be decided on issues rather than our current binary nonsense. 2008 will be my first Presidential election as a Catholic, and I find there is no one I can fully support in either party. I might be doing a write-in for the first time ever. Pretty sad. U.S. Citizens are forced to have to choose between whether to take care of the poor and disenfranchised, and end an un-just war, and fear mongering, citizen hating, illegally seated regime OR support someone who will lie to us about doing something about pro-life issues once they’re elected, and in all other respects continue to hate, scare and disrespect American citizens.
As and added bonus, if Giuliani is the Republican candidate, (which he may very well be), then we won’t even have the conscience cleansing lies about doing something for the pro-life movement, because Gules is an unabashed baby murderer from the get go. In fact, if he weren’t such a fan of un-just war, he’d be the most liberal person running for President. Except for war, he’s a little to the left of Castro.
The U.S. seems to be a very cold place for Catholic teachings. I didn’t even realize this until my conversion.
The one possible scenario that will allow me to not do a write-in, will be if Guliani is the Republican candidate and Obama, Biden, or Edwards are the Democratic nominee. If both of the candidates are anti-life, then we can start moving down the list, in order of importance on other issues. I can live with Obama, Biden or Edwards on virtually every thing except life issues, and I can’t live with Guliani on ANYthing.
Good luck to all.
How about the American Ethical Party? We have from now until 2016 to put it together and make inroads. With any luck at all, however, Jesus will come before then, and we’ll look back on all this…smile and shake our heads and how silly we’ve all been.
In the mean time…render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to the Lord that which is the Lord’s.
The peace of Jesus Christ be with you all,
Steven
