With all due respect, and this is the reason I changed from Democrat to Independent, I don’t believe that the Democrats really help poor people. I think they talk about it, but I’m not sure that they really help. I remember the “War on Poverty” initiated by Lyndon Johnson. If the plans and programs of the Democrats worked to help people out of poverty, there should be no poor people now because that program is 40 years old.
In thinking of this subject, I am always reminded of the saying “If you give a man a fish, you give him dinner, if you teach a man to fish, you give him food for life.” The plans and programs directed towards the poor in this country don’t work, because we keep “giving them fish”.
Of course there’s also the veritable holocaust of abortion. I saw a statistic (this is more of a world wide statistic, not just this country) that 5000 babies an HOUR were being aborted. Any genocide ever committed on this planet pales in comparison to those numbers. So I cannot support a party or a candidate whose party platform includes abortion rights.
