When somene says it costs nothing to give a child up for adoption they are ignoring the fact that the mother has to be able to afford to carry the child to term. That her job has to be waiting for her when she’s done with maternity (or that she won’t be fired for being pregnant). She has to know of the availability of adoption and how to go about it. And she has to be able to get adequate prenatal care.
As believers in the One Creator, we are never allowed to turn to evil to solve our difficulties because we have not risen to the challenge of helping our brothers and sisters in need.
To do it forcibaly (involuntary taxation), as the Democrats propose, is wrong. Even though tithing in the church is a mandate by God (giving one’s first-fruits before all else), it is not forced, it is left up to the responsibility of each individual.
To provide help and support to women with unplanned pregnancies should be done privately, charitably and voluntarily.
This is the mindset that needs to be fixed. We, as a Church and as individuals, must work to inspire all people to willingly help one another, but not by force. This requires a change of heart. Involuntary taxation by the government does nothing to connect people to other people.
As people of God, this is a no brainer. While not compromising our beliefs in the proper order of marriage and procreation, we do not turn our backs on women in times of stress.
And we never, ever consider abortion a viable alternative.
