Demonic Attacks -- Need Help

I’m a 21 year old student in Oklahoma. I’m a devout Catholic and planning to apply to the Order of Carmelites as soon as I graduate next year. I recently was hired to be the caretaker of the Methodist Student Center at my college–I have an apartment in the back of the building and I moved in about two weeks ago. Over the past two weeks, I have experienced and witnessed various things that I am convinced are demonic activity. I have also been victim to a number of demonic attacks, as have several of my friends who have visited me in the building.

Initially it was a feeling of being watched from a distance, or feeling as if someone or something was standing right in front of or behind me. Then other things began to happen, on more than one occasion lights have turned themselves on or off and I have heard many strange noises in the building that don’t seem to be natural, including a very loud explosion coming from one end of the building (it was so loud that several workers from the university physical plant came running into the building, afraid it was an explosion in the gas line). I often see things moving out of the corner of my eye. I constantly feel as if I am being threatened/hunted by an evil presence. More than once, I’ve walked into different rooms and felt the presence there, along with an overwhelming heaviness in my body and occasionally lightheadedness or a headache.

This happens at all times of day and night but mostly in the afternoon and at night. It mostly happens while I’m alone in the building (which is most of the time, during the summer) but it has also happened while others have been with me.

Saturday night, three of my friends came over and we attempted to exorcise the demon. I found an exorcism prayer online that is supposedly authorized by the Vatican for laymen to use when satanic or demonic activity is suspected. We all felt the demon leave and we ordered it not to return, invoking the name of God. But Tuesday afternoon I knew it was back. And now it’s worse than ever.

I’m afraid to tell my priest about this. If I tell him, two things could happen: First, he might not believe me. Second, if he believes me he’ll want to come here and do something about it and that would make the Methodists think I’m crazy (I’ve already tried telling the local Methodist minister about it and she didn’t believe me), and I might lose my job.

I pray the chaplet of St. Michael every day and pray the Rosary often as well, both with the specific intention of being freed from demonic influences. But whatever this is, it’s still here and I need it gone.

What can I do about this? Does what I’m describing sound like it could be demonic?

Also, one of the cabinets in my apartment has two VERY disturbing ‘faces’ in the woodgrain. I think it’s just my imagination but they’re freaking me out. I’m even afraid to cover them up.

I’m afraid to sleep, I’m afraid to clean the building or do anything here. The only place I feel safe in the entire building is the chapel, because I have felt an angelic presence near the altar.

Can my priest do anything? I know the general steps involved in getting an exorcism approved for a person but what about a building? Is it possible that this demon is following me, or that it might be attached to the building? What should I do?

Please reply with any suggestions you might have. And if you don’t have any suggestions, please pray that I will be protected!
Move to another apartment. And see if it follows.

That’s the exorcism that I used last weekend. It’s confusing because first it says only a priest can say that, then it says “the faithful may use it in their own name”. So that’s what I did.

And yes, I know the faces are just random things in the grain of the wood… But still creepy. I covered them with duct tape.

I read something about being “invested” with the scapular before you can wear it. How does that work?

And why have I never heard anyone mention blessed salt? I have holy water but I didn’t know there was such a thing as blessed salt. How would I use it and where do I get it? As far as I know, our parish doesn’t keep a supply of it.
Well first of all that was a pre-Vatican 2 exorcism prayer. So like the pre-Vatican 2 Mass. It just won’t work in todays society. You need to find an exorcism prayer that uses modern day english (most demons today don’t understand Latin). Remember that Pope John Paul 2 did away with the old exorcism prayer (you know, the one that actually worked), in favor of an in the spirit of Vatican 2 exorcism prayer. I often wonder in today’s Roman Catholic Church, if there are EMEs’, you know Extra-Ordinary Exorcists, done by the laity. Like EMHCs’, since most priests today can’t handle all the demons in this world. They need lay assistance. Especially with the priest shortage after Vatican 2 was implemented.

Now, now. Play nice. 😃

God bless,

Bkovacs,

I do know that a deacon can assist with an exorcism. In fact, a priest is never supposed to perform an exorcism alone and laypersons often do assist, though I haven’t heard of an actual title/office involving laity and exorcisms. So, I don’t think there’s an EMHC equivalent for the rite of exorcism.

Still, I understand that Vatican II changed a lot of things in the Church. But I don’t think God stopped recognizing all the things that were in place before. If, in the reforms of Vatican II, the Church was saying that the old rites didn’t work, then wouldn’t that have to mean that all the exorcisms performed before Vatican II are now invalid? I don’t think so. I think that there were legitimate reasons for the Church to change some things around in Vatican II, but I also think that God still recognizes the old rites. And if God recognizes them, the demons do–they are, after all, subservient to God just as all other creatures are.

First: Congratulations I am glad your demon problem is gone.

Second: We must remember that there can be local and personal infestation. A lot of times when a person is being harassed and the person is living a solid Catholic life then the problem is local infestation. Meaning there is some new age or pagan/cursed object that needs to be blessed with Holy Water and then removed and destroyed. In this case I would have thought to destroy the ugly faces in the wood grain. If that wouldn’t have worked I might have assumed it was because the Methodists are a Heretical Church. However since you have gotten ride of the problem it was most likely a demonic spirit attached to your living area due to some sins that a person may have been committed there by previous residents.

Third: Ghosts do exist. A ghost is a soul without a body. It has been reported by many exorcists and many saints that souls who are in purgatory for so long it seems unfathomable will receive permission to visit locations or individuals in hope that somebody will pray for them and the prayers that they receive relieve them of time in purgatory.

Also it should be noted that it is possible that the souls of the damned can also posses an individual. Which was the case of a Father who cursed his daughter at his death and upon her exorcism it was found in addition to several demons her damned father was also inside.

God bless you and God love you

I suggest, don’t try to exorcise the demon yourself. It can just get worse. It’s not a question of how devout you and your friends are, but rather that you’re not priests or exorcists… 😉 talk to a priest and ask him if he could bless the building with holy water. Carry sacramentals with you…like a Rosary, holy water… pray the St Michael prayer and the Hail Mary. God bless 🙂

My priest can’t bless the apartment because the Methodist church won’t allow it. I need a way to get rid of it that doesn’t involve my priest blessing the place, because that’s not possible.
hmm that makes it more difficult… can a priest just come over and say some prayers, would he be in allowed in at all? if it gets really bad, I suggest just leaving. I’d be scared lol.

It’s attached to the building. Move to another building. it clearly has some kind of permission to be there, and from what it sounds like, you do not have the authority to remove it. The priest’s hands may be tied becuase it is a protestant church’s building and i doubt that they will grant permission to have him come in. the only solution is to move into a different building.

Oki I just read the whole thread.

I’m glad the thing is gone 🙂 it definitely does sound like something demonic.

if it comes back… make sure you do get a priest to come in.

as for what lay people can or cannot do… lay people can pray to God or Mary or the Saints/Angels for protection, and they can also say prayers of deliverance. They can’t do formal exorcisms and no matter what you do don’t talk TO the demons!! only address God. Don’t even think about them. Fill your mind with good things. Make sure you’re in a state of grace, pray the Rosary, and you should be fine.

btw, VII never said that the old rites don’t work anymore… the rites changed but the old ones are still valid, I think. Just as the TLM is still valid.
Mommyof4,

Are laypersons allowed to wear scapulars? I thought only religious could wear them. I’m planning to join the Order of Carmelites after I finish college, so the Scapular of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel might not be a bad idea if I’m allowed to wear it.
yes, lay people can wear scapulars 🙂 they are just smaller. Carmelites wear the bigger ones. If you get a scapular make sure it’s wool.

God bless

I’m sorry but this wasn’t very nice.

For durability or ??? Just curious. Mine, by the way, no longer has the images on them – they’re just brown rectangles. I assume they’re still blessed and powerful. My wife, otoh, has sewn the images back on her’s.

God bless,
Dan

I will pray for you. Use Holy Salt and Holy Water. Hang up a crucifix. Wear the scapular constantly. If you haven’t heard of Holy Salt here is a good link.
fisheaters.com/salt.html
Just take some salt to your priest, he might not have heard of Holy Salt still have him bless it.

Benedicat vos omnipotens Deus, Pater, Filios, Spiritu Santos.

Sarcasm… I understand.

Health and long life to Pope Benedict XVI.

He has encouraged from the beginning of his pontificate that all catholics learn a few Latin prayers.

I like where he’s headed with this.

Pax Domini sit semper vobiscum.

The problem with the exorcism (which is the Exorcism of Pope Leo XIII) linked by GoodwillOK is not that it’s old, but that laity are instructed not to use it. At the top of that link right under the title, it says in all caps, “WARNING: TO BE SAID BY A PRIEST ONLY.” The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith issued instructions on this exorcism:
It follows also from these same prescriptions that Christ’s faithful may not employ the formula of exorcism against Satan and the fallen angels which is excerpted from that formula made official by order of the Supreme Pontiff Leo XIII, and certainly may not use the entire text of that exorcism. Let all bishops take care to admonish the faithful about this matter whenever such instruction is required.

Pope John Paul II didn’t do away with the old exorcism prayer. Exorcists can still opt to use the old version.

“EMEs” are not possible since only a priest appointed by his bishop can perform and exorcism. Laity can participate in prayers of deliverance. Fr. Gabriele Amorth talks about what a help this is for exorcists in his book, An Exorcist: More Stories. There are some cases of demonization that are not full-out possessions, and lay prayer groups can help with these as long as they follow the guidelines set forth in the Current Norms Governing Exorcisms.

Surround yourself with blessed items: rosaries, crucifixes, holy water, holy salt, images of Mary. That will help.

I am very familiar with demons and demonic attacks. It sounds as if you may be undergoing a trial. First I am sure that the demons are aware of your desire in the future to possibly become a religious. Most demonic attacks happen to scare you off. It happens because they are afraid of your spiritual development. If you follow through with your plan you may become a great threat to their plans by grace.

Remember this no demon has any power except what God alone allows them. The devil is a tool in the hands of God used to test His servants to assist them to become more holy. Tested and purified in fire, like gold.

Another important point is that the church has no prayers of excorcism for lay persons. They have excorcists but this is not necessary you cannot run away from all your crosses. It is wise to have any place you live blessed. After that trust in God and Pray the Rosary often but in an emergency when confronted face to face as it were with evil turn immediately to Our Blessed Mother Mary She is a sure refuge.

I am sure that a priest would take you extremely seriously. He would be remiss in his obligations if he didn’t. Just tell him everything you told us. Print it off and read it if you have to. I am sorry you are going thru this and will say a prayer to St. Michael for you. But do not stay in the place without getting it blessed. 😦

Edit: I just realized this was back in Jul. I wonder if the prob. is solved by now.

Hello,
Exorcism is in fact torture of any evil spirit who claims ownership of the subject. We are an ecumenical organization of Orthodox, Old Roman Catholic, Ethiopian Coptic, African Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Russian Orthodox, Malankara, Anglican, Lutheran Orthodox, Chaldean, Armenian, Ukrainian Orthodox, and many branches of the Body of Christ who freely offer Christ’s Peace for tormented people in the grip of evil. The world headquarters for the Exorcist Order of Saint Michael is located in Missouri. Our web address is: www.exorcistorder.com The Exorcist Order of Saint Michael is Consecrated to Mary the Immaculate Conception. We are non-profit and our divinity school is free; we are authorized to issue religious degrees by the Missouri Department of Education…
We welcome those experiencing hauntings, possession, and various forms of malevolent oppression to contact us. Deliverance prayers are rarely effective long term. For those families under attack, we understand the great fear you are experiencing and hope that you will contact us.
This is serious and dangerous. The Evil One can and will wreck your life if you invite him. The greatest of human misery is the reward for those who invite the prowling lion who devours souls. Blasphemy, curses, satanism, murder, idolatry, paganism, Ouija board, astrology, tarot, witchcraft, voodoo, ogboni, seances, pagan idols and talking to the dead are the most common causes of invitation. If anyone states differently, they are simply a servant of evil spirit. We exist as primarily bishops of +++ Pope Pius IX RC reunification project: The Order of Corporate Reunion

Thank you for your exorcist website. I have bookmarked it because we never know when we are under attack and need some help.

I truly believe in being cursed. Some people go around cursing people and not knowing what power they have in their evil curses.

I try not to invite the devil or demons into my house by staying away from negative or evil people. I can sense when someone doesn’t like me so I just stay quiet.

I am in the habit of putting holy water on me and my dog because if the demon can’t get to me they will go for my pet.

Thank you again for your website and advise.
