A few months ago, I had 2 or 3 dreams where, in my dream (half awake half asleep one of the times) I felt about the strongest evil presence I’ve ever felt in my life trying to get inside me. And what’s worse, one of the times I was fully awake with the same feeling.
During those experiences, I was paralyzed and all I could do was pray.
Calling on Mary took care of that.
Last night I had a similiar dream. A very evil presence attempting to get inside me and possess me.
In all these instances my heart was POUNDING. Emphasis on POUNDING.

I talked to one of my bishops about this a few weeks ago, it stumped him and he asked a more knowledgeable spiritual director, who advised me to see a cardiologist and go from there.

Well, I’m gonna be goin to see a cardiologist, cuz I was havin problems with my heart anyway.

Be that as it may…WHAT IS GOING ON???
Do you have any idea how SCARY these experiences are? I feel it’s possible that something could be in my room when I’m dreaming and my subconcious is warning me to pray for protection.

PLEASE HELP!!!

Does anyone have any advice or similiar stories?

If anything, please pray for me (and my family!)

I have had dreams similar and I have read on other threads of others having similar dreams as well. I do know that when I have had them, and woke up but couldn’t move because of the feeling that something evil was surrounding me, I just started praying, mostly the Lord’s Prayer, over and over until the feeling left. I had it happen one time where it took a couple of hours for it to leave.

I can’t tell you what these things are about, if there really is a tormentor involved or if it is our subconsciences playing tricks on us. My only advice is to see your doctor like you were advised and make sure you pray every night before you sleep, that the Lord will protect your mind and dreams.

I also would be conscious of things that you watch on tv, in movies or that you read. I do believe we need to be diligent as to what our minds are filled with. I know I avoid anything that has to do with gore, demons, occultic themes… It’s just not good to saturate your soul with these things.

It’s all I know to do.

God Bless

I have never had anything like that happen to me, but I think that maybe say the Rosary before you go to bed every night. Ask for God’s protection and ask that your guardian angel protects you as well. Maybe get some Holy Water and start sprinkling it around your room, even around your house. Anywhere that you feel these demonic presences have been. Also, remember that God is much more powerful than the demons. There is nothing that they can do to you if you ask God to protect you. I will pray for you.

But anxiety attacks only when I’m asleep/halfasleep/waking up? It’s like it’s only happening when I’m conciously unprepared i.e. at my weakest.

It’s scary, I’ll tell ya that. First time it happened, I didn’t wanna go back to sleep. But now, I dunno… I bought a statue of Mary today (in my dream that I had last night, the statues were an excellent protection) And in the past I’ve had statues placed in my room, and it ceased happening then.

Holy water font anyone? 🙂

OK, I just got finished watching a program on Discovery Channel tonight talking about this very same thing!

They have discovered this mode or phase of sleep in which a person can experience what they are calling sleep paralysis. And during this phase, the brain releases a chemical that actually paralyses you so that you cannot act out what you are dreaming about, which is usually something very menacing. Most people studied were experiencing these same feelings, feelings of being surrounded by evil or aliens or other things that person would consider very horrifying. And sometimes you could wake from these nightmares and still have this paralysis happening and still be experiencing the visions that were part of your dream.

So, bottom line is, this may be explainable by something naturally occuring during your sleep cycle and not something necessarily spiritual in nature.

I know it made me feel better seeing this show as I have had these experiences also, now I know I don’t have to fear them. I can’t believe this show was on the very time we were having this discussion!

God Bless

Don’t think that you are crazy because you are not! I just witnessed some demonic stuff that has been unbelievable and don’t let any one make you think you are crazy. A good suggestion is to sleep with miraculous medal on and put some blessed salt under your mattress. The evil one hates this kind of stuff.

I really never knew what Blessed Salt was but let me tell you it is very powerful.

I was working in a school and two youngs boys were very much under the influence of the evil one. The mother was involved in Wicca. I did have a few dreams with some evil presence but they slowed down when the Blessed salt went under the mattress. I placed it under all of my children’s mattresses as well.

I’ve had similar experiences myself and gladly not in quite awhile. But I do wear a brown scapular with a miraculous medal attached. And I do have statues of the Blessed Mother and one of St. Michael, cricifixes and lots of Holy Water and other sacramentals, and icons and relics of saints.

I remember praying in those dreams and that always worked. But once in one dream I began to shout out the Hail Mary. I was angry with the perceived evil and I was alarmed that this didn’t stop what was happening. But then I realized that shouting out the Hail Mary was hardly reverent or holy. So I started over and began to PRAY the prayer with love and then “poof” - release and blessed peace!

So don’t despair, God is there! I think you are on the right track to having those be a thing of the past!!

I have had similar experiences in the past. I sleep with a BIG spray bottle of Holy Water next to my bed, Rosary and Bible. I just spray the room before I go to sleep. And I pray my rosary as I slip off to sleep. It has been my experience that when God is close to getting a sinful or prideful habit out of you, these night experiences gets worse. Remember that when you sin, the Devil has legal claim on you in that area. And he doesn’t like to lose anyone. Go to confession once a week and remain in a state of grace. Ask God to remove anything that offends him from your life.

Hi-

I second all the advice, and also suggest you should first rule out any medical condition that could be causing this, maybe consult a doctor or sleep center if there’s one in your area.
Here’s a site that has information on spiritual warfare:

The dreams could be anything at all…undoubtedly praying about them is the best method of dealing with them no matter their origin etc.

…I know this is an old thread and I hope you have found your answers-but this isn’t demonic-it’s a very real chemical imbalance and sleep disturbance - research “old Hag syndrome” online…hope this helps-my prayer for you is one of serenity and sweet dreams…God Bless

I have had the experience that after I have confessed and later in the night go to sleep I will dream about certain things that are mortally sinful and wakeup very angry because I know who is doing this to me. Even dreams can affect you throughout the day because you keep getting flashes of them in your mind.

One time I woke up to go to the bathroom and in getting up saw the clock’s time was 2:03am. I walked out in the hallway and immediately felt like the walls were closing in on me and felt something that I can only describe as “even the air around me being filled with the presence of evil”.

When I felt this evil presence I got very very frightened and tried to pray the Hail Mary but my throat had closed up and I had to force the words one by one out of my mouth. I used all of my will-power to find my bedroom door but couldn’t for the longest time. I won’t go into more details but in the end by the time I got back to my room the sun was already starting to rise so I knew that I had gone through this ordeal for several hours. I was so frightened by this experience that I didn’t want to sleep alone for quite some time.

The evil one fights hard and if you need to get Holy Water, Blessed Salt or to have the presence of statues of the Saints or Jesus around you then do so. Don’t let anyone discourage you from doing so.

Take care of yourself spiritually AND physically. I will be praying that all goes well with you at the Cardiologist.

Peace.

It seems blourdes and valburga gave what I was waiting to read:
  1. **Spray holy water everywhere **in your house and around your bed, and keep the bottle in the room where you sleep.
  2. If you’re awake during these pounding attacks, say, "The Name of Jesus be Praised!" and St. Anthony’s exorcism prayer: Behold the Cross of the Lord. Begone, ye enemy powers. The Lion of the Tribe of Juda, the root of David has conquered. Alleluia, Alleluia. Amen. Make Sign of the Cross blessing when saying it as a priest does when he’s blessing holy articles.
  3. Keep a **Crucifix in every room of the house **(I even have one on my bathroom wall). And **Rosary and Scapulars **on you/near where you sleep. Good idea to have them blessed by a priest !
Bear in mind these are not to be treated as superstitions, but rather as religious sacramentals, which the evil HATES ! And remember, that we’re told by the Church not to believe in dreams - and yet your fear / feelings may go beyond simple unconscious thought.

And also bear in mind that you may have a cardio problem, so see a physician, as well, in case these pounding attacks are heart-related. It’s hard to tell if the attacks are caused by your fear of these “dreams” or the opposite. But I’d recommend quick action.
May The Name of Jesus Be Praised!

While I agree he should start by looking at medical explanations, there is such a thing as demonic oppression, and neither you or I have the authority to flatly declare it isn’t demonic at least as a possibility.

(((((Scottgun)))))…demons only have power in your life if you allow it…FEAR and DOUBT allows it…they feed on such things …I feel very confident by what was described to state what I did-…release the fear- only accept what comes through God’s Love and let God handle the details…find your FAITH and wrap it like a shield around you…and then TRUST you are in good hands…God Bless

(((((Scottgun)))))…
Huh? What’s with all the parenthesis? Is this some net lingo I’m not familiar with?

But this does not overthrow my point at all. Yes, your advice is sound as a remedy, but I was’t discussing the remedy, but a possible cause. There is nothing that infallibly rules out demonic activity. It should be the last thing we consider when all rational explanations are exhausted, but it’s at least in theory on the table.

…those are ((((hugs))))…sorry you aren’t familiar with them…😦

I had no need to “overthrow” your point-just saying it is a moot point when Faith and Trust in God’s Love is the priority in all things…:gopray: 👍

I have been there/done that. The holy water and prayer to St. Michael will not work if this is a neurological problem. You will need a sleep study and a EEG, both of which can be ordered by a neurologist.
It is important that you consult with your priest for your own comfort but still pursue a neurologist as soon as possible. The “night hag” is associated with dangerous daytime sleepiness and sometimes even narcolepsy -seizure activity that induces abnormal sleep. This sleep-seizure can occur while operating a car or other dangerous machinery. Apnea during the night has also ben associated with heart attack and cardiac arrest.
Medications are available that are 100% effective.
